Outside the suite, Torrin desperately tried to maneuver around Avril, who stubbornly blocked his path.
“Move!” he snapped.
“No!” she retorted. “Can’t you see Larissa is on a date with Haskell? She doesn’t want to talk to you. Don’t you have any self-awareness?”
Torrin glared at her. “This is none of your business!”
“Oh, but it is!” Avril shot back. “You still haven’t paid for knocking me over. Don’t think you can just walk away from your responsibilities!”
He realized she was deliberately stalling. “You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?”
“What, trying to get out of it? I’ll call your father right now and tell him you snuck out while you were grounded!”
“How did you know I was grounded?” he asked, confused.
Avril flinched, quickly recovering. “Your sister mentioned it! She said you begged her to bring you, which obviously means you were stuck at home.”
She had almost revealed that she was the one who had been secretly texting him as Larissa.
“I don’t care. If you don’t take me to the hospital for that scan, I’m not leaving you alone!” she declared, doubling down.
Torrin pointed a finger at her face, his jaw tight. “If you weren’t a woman, I’d punch you.”
“Such a bad temper. No wonder Larissa doesn’t like you,” Avril said coolly. “She can see and hear everything you’re doing out here. Making a scene will only make her despise you more.”
Her words hit their mark. Torrin took a deep, steadying breath. “Fine! I’ll take you to the hospital, alright?”
As they passed the Blessing Suite, he paused and looked inside. The sight of Larissa sitting beside Haskell, laughing and smiling, was like a knife to his heart.
Torrin turned, his voice raspy. “I’ll take you to the hospital.” He strode away without another look back.
Avril, snapping out of her thoughts, glanced at Larissa and Haskell before hurrying after him.
Sharon, who had been watching the entire spectacle from her room, turned to her friend. “My idiot brother, acting like he’s in some cheesy drama. I have to admit, it’s pretty entertaining.”
Her friend giggled. “It really is.”
Back in the suite, Haskell, still reeling from the unexpected kiss, grinned at Larissa. “Well, I don’t think Torrin will be bothering you anymore.”
At that moment, Lenora, the event’s host, stepped onto the stage with a microphone.
“Good afternoon, everyone. I’m Lenora, editor for the author Field of Lari. Thank you all for coming to the copyright auction for her novel, ‘Heaven’s Will’. I will be your host for today’s proceedings.”
