Seeing her father’s firm stance, Larissa said no more. Deep down, she agreed with him. Her mother’s well-being was far more important than the unpredictable outcome of a high-risk pregnancy.

Neville gripped the steering wheel, took a deep breath, and then said with a heavy but firm voice, “Larissa, I hope you won’t bring this up with your mother again. From now on, you are our one and only daughter.”

“Okay.”

Changing the subject, Neville said, “The rumors are all saying that Haskell can’t have children. If that’s true, would you…”

Larissa smiled. “I can cure him, Dad. But, if I truly wanted a child and his condition was incurable, I would leave him without a second thought.”

Neville was stunned by her swift, decisive answer.

“Fortunately for him, having children isn’t a necessity for me, so I don’t mind either way.”

For a moment, Neville didn’t know what to say. As a father, he was relieved that his daughter was so clear-headed. She would never let herself be mistreated in her marriage to Haskell. He just wondered if Haskell would be heartbroken to know her thoughts on the matter.

When they arrived at Starlight Media, Larissa got out of the car. The window rolled down, and Neville leaned out. “I’ll leave work early to pick you up today.”

“Okay.”

Larissa shrugged. “In that case, it’s probably for the best that he’s not joining us. I never had much faith in Finley’s judgment anyway.”

“Huh?” Ursa was taken aback by her nonchalant reaction.

“I’ll find another director to helm the project myself,” Larissa stated simply.

Ursa snapped back to attention. “…I understand. I’ll let you get back to work, Ms. Judson.”

She wondered if Ms. Judson had another ace up her sleeve. Benedict was one of the biggest names in the industry. The few directors on his level were all well-established with their own networks and notoriously difficult to approach.
