“How long?” Damon asked, looking up.
“A month at most,” Magnus replied. “In the meantime, we can fan the flames behind the scenes, promote a new young singer. Once Leopold feels the pressure, he’ll come running to Gale Entertainment.”
“Good. You’ve proven to be a valuable asset,” Damon said, pleased with the news. “What’s the latest on Starlight Media?”
Lucius sat silently on the sofa, his legs crossed. Though he didn’t speak, Magnus could tell he was keenly interested in the situation.
“One of my sources there told me that Larissa brought in some outside help a few days ago. They haven’t officially joined the company, and they even use codenames. The strange thing is, Larissa seems to trust them completely. My source sent me their photos, and I ran a check on my way back. They’re nobodies.”
“It’s just a desperate move,” Damon scoffed.
“Exactly what I was thinking. She’s probably just trying to keep morale up. A few nameless faces are nothing to worry about. The only real problem is…” Magnus paused for a moment. “Larissa somehow managed to persuade the famous director Gustave to come out of retirement.”
At the mention of that name, Benedict, himself a director, frowned.
It was the one name he never wanted to hear. In his two-decade-long career, his achievements still paled in comparison to what Gustave had accomplished in less than ten years.
“Gustave?” Damon asked, surprised. “Are you sure?”
Magnus, ever the diplomat, chimed in, “Damon, I don’t think we need to worry too much about Gustave. He’s been out of the game for three years. His talent has probably faded. For all we know, the ‘illness’ was just an excuse. Compared to Benedict, he’s surely fallen far behind by now.”
Benedict remained silent, his gaze fixed on Lucius across from him.
After the disastrous rights sale meeting, Damon wasn’t taking any chances. He knew what he was about to say would annoy Benedict, but he said it anyway. “To be safe, I want you to find an opportunity to speak with Gustave. Persuade him to drop ‘Heaven’s Will’. If necessary, use Mr. Lincoln’s name to put some pressure on him.”
Magnus glanced at Benedict’s sour expression, but seeing no objection from Lucius, he nodded. “Of course, Damon. I’ll start looking for Gustave’s contact information right away.”
After Magnus left, Damon offered his reassurance. “Mr. Lincoln, rest assured. At this critical juncture, I doubt any director would dare to cross you for Larissa’s sake.”
