Larissa's Game of Thrones (Larissa) novel Chapter 520

Larissa put down her glass and, undeterred, reached for a piece of chicken drenched in chili oil. “Grandpa Zoltan, please, speak freely.”

She popped the spicy chicken into her mouth.

Compared to Larissa, Zoltan ate with a practiced ease. “In a family like ours, with so many descendants, true harmony is a rare thing. Even if I didn’t give everything to Haskell, the others would still feel a sense of imbalance. I chose Honora for Haskell initially because she was known as the most talented woman in Regal City. I thought she could be an asset to him in managing the family.”

“But you… you were Haskell’s own choice. After his accident, the Judson family tried to back out of the marriage, offering you in Honora’s place. I was going to call it off entirely, but when Haskell returned, he told me he wanted to proceed with the marriage. I didn’t understand at first, but after meeting you at your welcome banquet, I saw why he was so drawn to you.”

“To be honest, even with his legs crippled, I never intended to choose another heir. But his injury would have made it much more difficult for him to maintain control. I wasn’t angry about you poisoning my granddaughter tonight. Because I know that my grandson, Haskell, needs you. I want to use you, to ensure that he can secure his position as the head of the Palmer family.”

At his words, Haskell’s expression hardened.

“Grandpa, you don’t need to worry,” he said seriously. “I can handle the family’s affairs on my own.”

He never wanted to use Larissa. He married her simply because he loved her.

“You’re just like Haskell’s mother in that respect,” Zoltan mused. “She chose my good-for-nothing son, Thatch, for his looks too.”

Larissa smiled faintly. “It’s only natural. We’re drawn to beauty, just as we’re drawn to food.”

Zoltan studied his grandson for a moment. “Looking at you now, it’s clear your father, Thatch, failed you in many ways. But the one thing he did right was giving you that handsome face.”

A faint, bittersweet smile touched Haskell’s lips. “Indeed.”
