“Yes. Paxton brought a lot of men with him. It almost came to blows with the Lincoln family’s bodyguards,” Nightveil reported. “Eventually, Helena couldn’t stand it anymore. She had her people shove Josette out the door and screamed that she was kicking her out for good, that she was never to return to the Lincoln family.”

A bitter play, Larissa thought. A staged drama.

But she couldn’t be sure. With a week until her birthday, she would have to wait and see.

“Alright, keep an eye on Paxton and Josette,” she instructed. As she was about to hang up, a thought struck her.

“Wait. When your people were watching Paxton, did they see his wife, Vivica?”

“Boss, my sources said Vivica was nowhere to be seen.”

“No sign of her?”

“None.”

A thought flickered in Larissa’s mind. “I understand. Continue monitoring Paxton’s every move.”

“Understood, Boss.”

After ending the call, Larissa tossed her phone onto the sofa, a frown creasing her brow. It had been a while since Vivica had come to her, demanding to know Finley’s whereabouts. Knowing Vivica, even if Finley refused to return with her from Spire Village, she wouldn’t have stayed away from Regal City for this long.

Larissa’s intuition for strange situations was sharp. Feeling suspicious, she called Zendar to check on things with Finley.

“Larissa, what’s up?”

“Zendar, I have a question. Did Finley’s mother visit him in the village recently?”

“Oh, yeah, she was here. But she couldn’t handle it, got into a huge fight with Finley, and went back to Regal City. Why?”

Larissa’s eyes narrowed. “Zendar, are you sure she went back?”

“I can’t be one hundred percent certain,” he admitted. “I just heard them arguing that day, and she was yelling about leaving. Haven’t seen her since, so I figured she left. What’s going on? Is she missing?”

“Okay. The villagers and I will see you at your party.”

After hanging up, she called out, “Come in.”

Ursa entered. “Ms. Judson.”

“What is it?”

“Leopold posted a tweet about half an hour ago. Have you seen it?”

“No, I’ll look now.”

Larissa picked up her phone and opened Twitter. Leopold’s latest post read: [I won’t let down those who believe in me. This time, I will absolutely win.]
