Ursa was at a loss for words. “I was just worried about you, Ms. Judson…”
“Don’t be. This is my company. It’s not like she can kill me here.” With that, Larissa continued toward her office.
As she passed the glass-walled reception area, she cast a casual glance at Margot, who was perched on the edge of a sofa, but didn’t break her stride. Instead, she proceeded directly to her office at the end of the hall.
Margot, of course, saw her. She shot to her feet, stormed out of the reception area, and followed Larissa into the CEO’s office, slamming the door shut behind her with a decisive bang.
Larissa heard the door slam and glanced over her shoulder, unconcerned. She walked to her desk, set down her handbag, and booted up her computer as if it were any other morning.
Just as the screen lit up, a shadow fell across her desk.
Margot stood before her, her eyes blazing with fury. “Larissa, you’re the one who had that woman, Trudy, run down my son, aren’t you?”
“You know, I could sue you for harassment and slander for a stunt like this,” Larissa replied, leaning back in her chair and meeting Margot’s venomous gaze with unnerving calm.
Margot slammed her hands on the desk. “Cut the crap. I see right through your pathetic little schemes.”
“You deliberately had Trudy kill my son because she works for Lucius,” Margot spat, her voice thick with accusation. “You wanted my husband and me to suspect him, to drive a wedge between our families. Am I wrong?”
Larissa let out a soft laugh. “Have you been watching too many crime thrillers? Trying your hand at being a detective now?”
“I have no idea who this Trudy is,” she continued. “Besides, you said she works for Lucius. If that’s the case, why on earth would she take orders from me to kill your son? Your logic is a little flawed, don’t you think?”
“By now, your husband should be at the lab, getting a paternity test done on your son’s body,” Larissa said. She tightened her grip, and the plastic recorder cracked under the pressure. With a faint smile, she tossed the shattered pieces into the trash can by her feet.
A paternity test?!
Her son was dead. Why would Damon suddenly demand a paternity test? He had never once questioned her loyalty.
Margot’s face went white, and her voice rose to a shriek. “What did you do?”
Larissa didn’t answer directly. “You know, your husband really did trust you, didn’t he? It never even crossed his mind that Theon might not be his son. Never bothered with a test.”
