“Don’t you yell at me,” Livia’s voice turned icy, her smile laced with scorn. “You didn’t actually think I still respected you, did you? You didn’t think I agreed to all your plans, including the marriage to Lucius, because I cared about you as a father, did you?”
“Even if I had managed to win Lucius’s favor, the very first thing I would have done is have him help me take back the company my mother built with you! I would never have helped you strengthen it just to hand it over to your bastard son!”
Ignoring Damon’s increasingly grim expression, Livia twisted the knife. “Oh, but wait. Now you’ve found out Theon wasn’t even your biological child. You almost handed your entire legacy to another man’s kid.”
Damon looked as if he was about to choke, a strangled noise caught in his throat. He pointed a trembling finger at Livia. “You… you…”
“Save it,” Livia cut him off. “You should be asking yourself why Margot, a woman who only cares about your money, would risk having a child with another man. Does a gold-digger like her even know what love is?”
“Have you ever considered,” she leaned in, her voice dropping, “that maybe you can’t have children anymore? And that’s why she had to do it?”
“So don’t go thinking you can have another heir in your old age. You’re stuck with me. If you still refuse to give me the company, then you can just watch as it gets carved up by everyone else.”
With that, Livia rose to her feet. She shot one last, mocking glance at the ashen-faced Margot and walked out of the toxic, suffocating house without looking back.
“Darling, please believe me… I took a knife for you…” Margot pleaded, trying to crawl toward Damon, only to be met with a brutal kick that sent her sprawling. She landed hard on the floor, stunned.
She looked up in disbelief at the man before her, his eyes now devoid of the warmth and affection she had known for decades.
“Get out of my sight!” Damon snarled. “If it weren’t for that scar, I would’ve killed you myself instead of waiting for tomorrow’s results! Herbert already confessed. He admitted he slept with you!”
At his words, Margot froze, then shot a look of pure despair at Herbert.
“Did you see that, Mom?” she whispered to the empty air, as if her mother were sitting beside her. “Damon finally got what he deserved! He was cheated on for years by his precious mistress, foolishly raising another man’s child, and he almost gave the company away to that bastard! Ha! It’s better than I ever could have imagined!”
The laughter, sharp and tinged with madness, was a release of years of pent-up grief and rage.
After a long moment, her emotions began to settle. She took a deep, steadying breath, a new resolve hardening her features. She picked up her phone and dialed Larissa’s number.
The call connected a few seconds later.
“Ms. Judson, I’ve made my decision.” Livia’s voice was still raw, but her tone was firm and unwavering. “From now on, I’m with you. Whatever you ask of me, I’ll do it.”
