Having delivered her final message, Larissa set her phone aside and went to sleep, completely unconcerned with how Milton might be fuming or trembling with fear.
...
The next morning, she came downstairs to find her parents already awake, giving instructions to the bodyguards and staff for that evening’s birthday banquet.
“…Security is the top priority for tonight’s event,” her father was saying. “I need you all on high alert. Do a good job, and everyone gets double pay this month.”
At the mention of a bonus, the bodyguards’ eyes lit up.
“Understood, Mr. Judson!” they shouted in unison.
Hearing footsteps, Sapphira looked up from adjusting the evening gown she had designed. “Larissa, you’re awake,” she said with a warm smile.
“Morning.”
“Are you going to the office today?” Sapphira asked.
“Do you need my help with anything here?” Larissa offered. “If you do, I can stay home.”
“No, not at all. I have everything under control,” Sapphira said. “Besides, all your friends from the village are here, and they were a huge help yesterday. The moment they heard they were helping set up your birthday party, they were all so eager. They said they never gave you a proper celebration before and wanted to make up for it now.”
A total of thirty-two people had come from the village for the celebration. Zendar, Kimberly, and Luther were staying in the west wing villa, while the others were comfortably housed in the family’s private guest building.
“Your new songs are a huge hit,” Sapphira continued, beaming with pride. “Your father and I saw the reactions online. I imagine things will be busy at the office. You don’t need to worry about the party. Just come home after work, take a bath, slip on your gown, and be the most radiant princess… no, the most radiant queen in the room.”
Larissa looped an arm through her mother’s. “At home, with you and Dad, I’ll always be a princess. It’s only when I’m out in the world that I have to be a queen.”
“Alright, you flatterer, go get some breakfast. I had a special platter made for you today,” Sapphira said, gently pushing her away.
Her secretary, Ursa, looked surprised. “Ms. Judson, it’s your birthday! Aren’t you taking the day off?”
“The party isn’t until tonight,” Larissa replied. “I’d just be bored at home.”
Ursa fell into step beside her, buzzing with excitement. “Ms. Judson, your new songs have already surpassed sixty million in sales on Ruby Rhythm! At this rate, you’re going to set a new one-day record for a digital album release!”
Larissa, however, was calm. Her focus was on the bigger picture. “Keep an eye on Starlight Media and Gale Entertainment’s stock prices today.”
“Right away!”
Larissa picked up her phone and checked the “Regal City Tattler” chat. Still no reply from Milton, just some idle chatter from other members.
She put the phone down, opened Twitter on her computer, and saw that alongside the trending topics about her music, there was one other item at the bottom of the list: an update on Theon.
