"We’ve embarrassed him enough," Larissa said flatly. "There's no need to waste any more time on him."
"You're right! Your time is far too valuable, Larissa," Avril agreed.
As for Lucius, he was caught in the blast. It would have been perfect if it had killed him, but of course, a bomb of that size wasn't lethal unless, as Lucius himself had intended, it was strapped directly to the target.
If he wasn't dead, he would undoubtedly make his next move soon. All Larissa needed was to buy Milton enough time to get out of the country.
…
"Did you hear? There was a bombing at the Royal Bowling Alley!"
"What happened? Was it a terrorist attack?"
"Doesn't seem like it. The explosion was pretty small. Only three people were injured."
"Who? Who got hurt?"
"No idea. I saw a video on TikTok for a second, but it got taken down almost immediately."
After work, as Larissa walked through the main office, she overheard her employees buzzing about the explosion. When they saw her, the chatter immediately ceased, and they greeted her warmly. "Ms. Judson."
Larissa gave a slight nod. "Good evening. Time to head home."
She left the building and got into her car, where her phone rang once more. It was Nightveil.
"Boss, the Royal Bowling Alley incident came with an unexpected bonus."
"Oh?"
"Besides Lucius and his assistant, the third person injured was…"
As Nightveil revealed the name and title, Larissa’s expression grew serious. She knew the Lincolns had someone powerful backing them, but she hadn’t realized their connections in Regal City ran this high.
Then again, it made sense. A position like that would provide immense convenience for the Lincolns' business dealings.
"I heard there was an incident at the Royal Bowling Alley this morning," he said with a smile. "Though the details are being kept under wraps, word on the street is that Lucius and his assistant were among the injured."
He paused, his eyes twinkling. "Was that your handiwork, Larissa?"
Though phrased as a question, his expression made it clear he already knew the answer.
Larissa walked calmly to the sofa, setting down her medical case before taking a seat.
"Let's just say that no matter how hard Lucius investigates," she said softly, looking at Haskell, "he'll never trace it back to me."
She picked up her personal water glass from the table and took a sip, her expression placid. "The bell that exploded was provided to Milton by Lucius himself. The fact that it ended up with Lucius instead of on Milton makes Milton the prime suspect. The only fingerprints on it will be his and Lucius's assistant's."
She paused, watching Haskell’s reaction. He didn't press for more details, simply sitting in his wheelchair, seemingly lost in thought.
When he remained silent, Larissa spoke first. "Haskell, haven't you heard that there was a third person injured, besides Lucius and his assistant?"
