Julian looked down at the top of her head and her trembling shoulders.
A storm of unreadable emotions surged in his deep eyes.
His fingers twitched at his side, longing to reach out and tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear, but he forced himself to hold back.
"No rush," his voice softened considerably.
"Do you want me to drive you home?"
"No!" Eliza replied with frantic resistance.
"Please, you don't need to go through the trouble. We can take a cab. I've already caused you enough problems for one day..."
She was a total mess, and she didn't want to spend another second in this man's presence.
Julian stared at her in silence for a few seconds.
He let out a very soft sigh.
He knew her pride had already been shattered to pieces.
Pushing her right now would only make her feel worse.
"Alright. Get home safely." He didn't force the issue, turning around and walking toward his parked Maybach.
It wasn't until the sleek car disappeared down the street that Eliza finally felt she could breathe again.
However, before she could even process her relief, Miriam shoved her way into Eliza's face.
"Who was that handsome guy?"
Miriam grabbed Eliza's arm, her voice buzzing with frantic excitement.
"I don't know much about cars, but anyone can tell his suit and his ride cost a fortune. Is he your new man?"
Eliza felt a sharp ringing in her ears.
"He's just an old college acquaintance."
"Am I just some object with a price tag to you? As long as a man has money, even if he's a monster, would you sell me to him without a second thought?"
"You don't care about my happiness. All you care about is money, and how you can use me to hook another billionaire!"
Eliza screamed, completely breaking down.
Miriam's face turned pale, then flushed bright red as defensive rage took over.
"Why are you yelling at me? Do you think I enjoyed fighting like a street thug in a hospital?"
Miriam screeched at the top of her lungs. "You're the useless one! You couldn't even keep your own husband's attention, letting some other woman get pregnant with his kid, and you have the nerve to yell at me? Who do you think I suffered for today, you ungrateful little brat!"
"Am I wrong? You're damaged goods now! A divorcee with a busted leg who can't even dance anymore! You better find a rich guy to take you in while you still have a pretty face!"
"Are you going to wait until you're old and ugly and starving in the streets?"
"You'll be the death of me!"
Still screaming and crying, Miriam raised her hand and slapped Eliza hard across the back.
