The proud, unbelievably stubborn Eliza was now living in an apartment owned by Julian, and she was cohabitating with him!
No! It had to be a lie!
Julian must have used some dirty trick to manipulate her!
He had to find a way to see Eliza face-to-face and clear everything up!
Suddenly, a detail his mother mentioned that morning flashed through his mind.
Eliza's brother, Miles, owed a massive debt to an underground gambling ring.
It was a lot of money, and he had caused a huge scene at the hospital demanding cash.
He knew Eliza didn't have much in savings.
When they were married, almost every dollar she earned had been drained by her toxic family.
If...
If he could solve this massive problem for her?
If he could just talk some sense into her idiot brother and eliminate this nightmare hanging over Eliza's head, everything would change.
Would she then... give him a second chance?
Zander tightened his grip on the wheel, slammed his foot on the gas, and swerved onto the main road.
The SUV sped away from her apartment complex and merged into the heavy traffic.
His destination—the Shaw residence.
He was going to find Miles.
...
7:15 AM.
Eliza arrived at work on time. To clock in faster, she took the employee entrance at The Chelsea Dance Academy.
The hallway was tucked around the side of the building, exclusively used by staff, and the lighting was notoriously dim.
As soon as she rounded the corner, she saw two men leaning aggressively against the fire doors. One wore a black tank top, the other a dark grey t-shirt, both sporting sleeves of green and black tattoos.
The man in the black tank top spotted Eliza and immediately called out her name.
"Are you Eliza Shaw?"
Eliza froze in her tracks, her grip tightening painfully around the strap of her purse.
"Who are you?"
That signature—she had absolutely never signed anything like this!
But the handwriting was an eighty percent match.
It was Miriam's handwriting!
Attached next to the signature was a photocopy of Eliza's ID!
Miriam had secretly stolen a copy of her ID and forged her signature to guarantee a loan!
Eliza's blood turned to ice.
"Our boss is a reasonable guy. We're giving you three days." The man in black shoved the paper back into his pocket, pulled out a cigarette, and lit it, blowing a thick cloud of smoke into the cramped hallway.
The smoke stung Eliza's eyes and made her cough violently.
"Three days. Four hundred and seventy thousand dollars. Not a penny less."
"Otherwise—"
The man in grey reached out and roughly patted Eliza's shoulder, laughing at her deathly pale face.
"Don't blame us if things get ugly. After all, your pretty little face is worth a hell of a lot more than your brother's kneecaps."
