Lan Cafe was located on the outer commercial strip of the East District Film Lot, right next to the main entrances of Studio A and Studio B, just a three-minute walk away.
The floor-to-ceiling windows of the second-floor VIP area faced the soundstages perfectly, offering a great view in a simple, industrial-chic setting.
Jane parked her car by the curb, and the two women headed upstairs one after the other.
Zoe had arrived early.
A woman in her late twenties with a round face, wearing impeccable makeup and a pastel yellow jacket, she smiled with an enthusiasm that felt a bit overdone.
"Jane! Ms. Shaw! I finally managed to get you two busy bees out here!"
Zoe stood up to greet them, her gestures polite but lacking genuine warmth.
"Have a seat, please. I've already ordered. Jane's Americano, and Ms. Shaw—I wasn't entirely sure of your preference, so I went ahead and ordered a latte. If that doesn't work, I can get you something else."
"A latte is fine." Eliza sat down, calmly scanning the environment.
The three of them settled in.
Zoe didn't beat around the bush—which Eliza actually found surprising.
"Honestly, asking you two here today isn't a huge deal." Zoe pulled a clear folder from her bag and pushed it to the center of the table.
"Our *Fragrant Moon* stunt double casting has reached the final round, and we've narrowed it down to three people. The director asked me to bring the final list out and have some industry professionals take a look."
She opened the folder. Inside were three resumes, organized by number.
"Jane, Ms. Shaw, you're both experts in action and choreography. Just take a casual look and give us some pointers—strictly for reference. The final decision will still be made internally by our team."
Jane picked up her Americano, took a sip, and said unhurriedly.
"Your director isn't reviewing them himself?"
Zoe chuckled, a subtle hint of awkwardness in her smile.
"He has, but he can't make up his mind. All three have their pros and cons, so he wanted to gather some outside opinions."
Jane hummed in acknowledgment, pulled the folder toward her, and opened it.
Eliza leaned in to take a look.
Eliza's fingertip pressed against the edge of the resume, her lips pressing into a thin line.
She opened her mouth, just about to speak—
When a hand rested over her wrist.
It was Jane.
Jane's movement was incredibly natural, as if she were simply shifting her posture, but the fingers resting on Eliza's wrist pressed down with firm intention.
Eliza turned her head and glanced at her.
Jane's eyes were fixed on the three resumes, her expression completely relaxed, a polite smile lingering on her lips.
"Mhm, all three candidates look solid." Jane closed the folder and pushed it back to the center of the table.
Zoe's expression faltered slightly. "Jane, you don't have any... specific recommendations?"
"I'm a producer on the show next door. Your project's casting is an internal matter, it's not my place to make any major calls. I've looked at all three, they're all great. Let your director make the final call."
