A flash of impatience crossed Zander's face.
His cold gaze slowly shifted away, though the chatter around him continued to buzz.
"Seriously, where did you find a guy who's this hot and attentive!"
"Yeah, you've gotta share your secrets with us."
Yvonne's lips curled up as she clung to Zander's arm. "It was just fate."
Eliza listened in silence, feeling drained of all her strength, her breathing growing ragged.
A heavy, bitter weight settled in her chest.
Buried memories flashed through her mind.
Years ago, when she performed in her first international competition, she had desperately hoped Zander would show up.
But he always said he was too busy.
Eliza could only force a tight smile every time.
It wasn't that she hadn't held out hope, but Zander never came.
Yet now, on a completely ordinary workday, here he was.
Just because it was Yvonne?
Biting her lip, Eliza angrily fired off a text to Gwen.
Gwen replied almost instantly. "What the actual hell? How do those two scumbags have the nerve to flaunt it in front of you?!"
"Hold on, Eliza. I'm not gonna let you take this lying down!"
Before Eliza could figure out what she meant, a sudden commotion erupted outside.
A convoy of ten luxury cars had pulled up right in front of the academy.
The coworkers all crowded by the window. "Oh my god, who's putting on a show like this?"
"Guys are getting out! They're gorgeous!"
Eliza suddenly got a very bad feeling.
A second later, ten male models stepped out of the cars—some aloof, some flashing charming smiles, but all completely stunning.
Eliza's stomach dropped, her eyes wide with shock.
In no time, the ten models marched inside and completely surrounded Eliza.
"Eliza, we're here to pick you up from work."
"Let me grab your bag. Anything else you need me to carry?"
The men played their parts perfectly. One took her purse, another handed her a lemonade, and they trailed after her like a royal entourage.
They even rolled out a red carpet before opening the car door for her.
Her coworkers were dumbfounded, exchanging stunned looks, turning red in the face, entirely speechless.
The smile completely fell off Yvonne's face.
She pressed closer to Zander, trying to act like she didn't care, but failing miserably.
At that moment, Zander's arm violently jerked away. Yvonne's pupils shrank, and she reached out, but missed.
Zander's eyes were bloodshot, his face darkening with sheer rage.
So this is how it is, Eliza. Three years apart, and you've picked up some new tricks!
Finding a boyfriend yesterday, and having a whole crew of male models pick her up today.
It seemed that in the three years without him, she was living her best life!
How dare she!
His deep, gravelly voice washed over her. "Eliza, are you here to complain?"
Complain?
Eliza was completely lost. She was here for a leg consultation, who would she be complaining to?
What, was the doctor Zander's dad or something?
Eliza sneered. "Zander, I'm here to get my leg checked. What are you doing here? This clinic can't fix your brain; you need a psychiatrist."
Zander's brow furrowed.
His face was stern, with dark bags under his eyes.
Just the thought of those ten male models yesterday made him grind his teeth. He hadn't slept a wink all night.
Radiating hostile energy, Zander snapped, "If you can juggle ten men, Eliza, your leg must be perfectly fine."
"You—"
Outraged, Eliza reacted instinctively, throwing her hand up to slap him.
He caught her hand mid-air, gripping her wrist tight. "Are you done throwing a fit? Didn't you come here specifically to complain to my parents?"
"Eliza, don't forget you were the one demanding a divorce."
An insane theory suddenly clicked in Eliza's mind.
She remembered the group chat.
Someone had mentioned that Zander's real parents were famous doctors.
Could it really be that much of a coincidence?
It really was Zander's biological father.
Zander's gaze darkened. "I've explained what happened back then a hundred times. Why won't you just listen to me, Eliza?"
