Left for Dead Came Back for Everything novel Chapter 89

Eliza looked at him coldly, her eyes utterly devoid of warmth.

It was as if she were looking at a deranged stranger.

"Zander, this is my private residence."

"You trespassed first, and now you are attempting assault."

"We are getting divorced very soon. If you get thrown into a jail cell right now, am I supposed to wait another month for you?"

"You can rot in a prison cell for all I care, but do not waste my time."

As if that were not enough, Eliza drove the knife deeper. "And I am not standing here because I am afraid you will hurt him. I am afraid you will dirty his hands. I am also afraid a rabid dog like you will drag innocent people down for no reason!"

At that moment, a hand gently grasped Eliza's shoulder.

With undeniable firmness, the hand gently pulled Eliza behind him.

Julian shielded Eliza completely under his wing, his tall frame entirely blocking Zander's view of her.

A cold smirk touched the corner of Julian's lips.

"Mr. Roth."

"Screaming and throwing punches in front of a lady... is this the extent of your upbringing?"

"Also, let me correct you on one thing. Eliza was not protecting me. She was simply teaching you how an adult maintains their dignity."

Zander watched Eliza stand obediently behind Julian. There was no trace of resistance in her posture, and she did not even spare him a second glance.

"Eliza..." Zander suddenly let out a tragic laugh.

He stumbled back two steps, his smile looking far more agonizing than tears.

"Fine. I, Zander Roth, brought this humiliation upon myself today!"

He stared at Eliza one last time.

Then, he turned and blindly stumbled toward the stairwell.

He pushed hard through the emergency exit door and vanished.

Once he was gone, Gwen dramatically patted her chest and rolled her eyes, breaking the heavy silence first.

"Oh my god, is that guy's brain completely defective? He is a walking anger management crisis! Thank god you woke up, Eliza, or who knows, you might have ended up a victim of domestic violence!"

Eliza's tightly wound nerves finally relaxed.

Her heart felt incredibly bitter. When exactly did Zander become like this?

She remembered the bright, cheerful boy he used to be.

She rubbed her temples. Whatever, it did not matter anymore.

He reached into his coat pocket and handed her a sealed envelope.

Eliza took it, her fingers instinctively tightening around the paper.

A wave of shock hit her. It had barely been any time at all, yet Julian had already thoroughly investigated exactly what she asked for.

For some reason, her mind drifted to Zander, the man who would only ever tell her, 'Yvonne is so pitiful, stop being unreasonable.'

Putting the two men side by side, the difference was painfully obvious.

Julian threw a casual, chilling glance toward the emergency stairwell. "If I had known he was going to be here, I would have had security throw him out onto the street."

"Thank you, Julian." Eliza looked up at him, and this time, there was no polite distance in her gratitude.

"Alright, alright! Enough with the thanking!"

Gwen's impatience flared up. She hated this awkward 'staring into each other's eyes' tension—even though she was internally screaming with joy at how cute they were together.

But right now, filling their stomachs was the top priority.

She waved her hand, breaking them apart.

"Let us drop the toxic ex talk, it ruins the appetite!"

Gwen turned to Julian with a brilliant smile. "So, Mr. Lawrence, would you lower yourself to have some hotpot with us two ladies tonight? Will you do us the honor?"
