Two people who had never been romantically involved were now being dragged into this mess over feelings that had never existed.
Vivian fell silent.
Hearing Leon state so firmly that he had never felt anything for Monique left her deeply disappointed.
“Even so, you can’t marry Jennifer. Even without Monique, your grandmother will arrange your marriage.”
The elders had probably refrained from objecting to Monique because her family background was acceptable.
But now that Leon had made it clear he had no interest in her, they would undoubtedly choose someone else for him.
Even Vivian would have no say in the matter.
Leon glanced at her.
“You and Monique have no future now anyway,” Vivian continued.
Although she was anxious that Monique had not yet returned, Vivian knew Marianne’s decision had destroyed any possibility of Monique marrying Leon.
That only made her dislike Jennifer even more.
She hated that woman.
“There was never any possibility between Monique and me.”
“You…”
Vivian was already furious.
Now Leon kept insisting that he had never felt anything for Monique.
What did that make all her efforts to bring them together?
Had she been the only one imagining a future between them?
Vivian suddenly felt as though all her hard work had brought her nothing but blame.
It was not only the two elders who treated her that way.
Even her own son seemed to feel the same.
“Stella really won’t hurt Monique, will she?” Vivian asked.
She did not trust Stella’s character in the slightest.
The Monique’s family had been demanding answers for days, and Vivian had no idea what to tell them.
They had entrusted Monique to her.
And now this had happened.
All Vivian could do was hope Stella would not harm her. Otherwise, there would be no explaining it to Monique’s family.
“She probably won’t.”
“Probably?”
Vivian immediately grew anxious.
Hearing how firmly he defended Jennifer only made Vivian angrier.
“You certainly trust her.”
Leon fell silent.
Did he trust her?
He trusted Jennifer to do exactly what she said.
He had once believed she would never end the pregnancy either.
Then Stella had delivered the news that she had.
No one knew how Leon felt at that moment.
He was in agony.
Every time he remembered that their child was gone, the pain returned.
Why had Jennifer needed to take things so far?
Had he truly been wrong?
He had told her repeatedly that he had no romantic feelings for Monique.
Why had she refused to believe him?
Why had she gone so far as to end their child’s life?
