Let’s Divorce Mrs. Wright Is Done Playing Nice novel Chapter 1027

He had trusted the wrong person.

It was true that Evan had never known Summer’s true nature.

But Stella’s question cut straight to the heart of the matter.

She was right.

Even if Summer had genuinely been kind and innocent, Evan still would have hurt Stella for her.

Was he only sorry because he had misjudged Summer?

Or was he truly sorry because his choices had cost him Stella?

Stella pushed him away.

“You still don’t understand what you did.”

And yet he wanted another chance.

If he could hurt her because he had trusted the wrong person before, what would stop him from hurting her again for someone who genuinely deserved his sympathy?

Evan’s chest tightened.

“I understand. You’ll never forgive me.

“Summer’s character has nothing to do with it.

“I regret losing you.”

His voice grew urgent as he spoke.

He really was panicking.

Perhaps part of his regret came from realizing how badly he had misjudged Summer.

But more than anything, he regretted driving Stella away.

If he could go back and do it all again, he would never care for Summer in a way that made Stella uncomfortable.

As Stella had once told him, there had been countless ways to support his late brother’s widow.

He had never needed to handle everything personally.

But back then, he had refused to listen.

“Stella.”

Evan met her cold gaze and instinctively reached for her hand.

She stepped back.

The distance and coldness in her eyes made her position unmistakable.

She wanted a clean break from their marriage.

Evan seized her wrist.

“I can’t lose you.”

Her determination to leave him could not have been clearer.

But he had no intention of letting her go.

“Is that so?”

Stella laughed coldly.

No matter what Evan said now, it sounded like a joke to her.

What if Remi and Seymour had simply misread Stella?

They had been together for so many years.

How could his death have meant absolutely nothing to her?

But now he had seen it for himself.

Stella truly did not care.

The realization hollowed out his chest, leaving behind a slow, relentless ache.

“Was I supposed to be upset?” Stella asked.

“We were together for years.”

“Yes, we were,” she replied. “And how did those years end?”

There had been a time when Evan had been the center of her world.

Unfortunately, he had never cherished what she gave him.

And now he was hurt because she had not grieved when she heard he was dead?

It would have been far stranger if she had.

Evan had no answer.

Once Stella started bringing up the past, he had no way to defend himself.

“Let’s not talk about that anymore.”

He pulled her back into his arms.
