Ivy had suggested that Amos agree to take Stella to Eirden, then let her escape along the way.
He had refused without hesitation because he had never intended to turn against Evan completely.
But Evan had gone too far.
He had threatened the one person Amos would never allow anyone to touch.
The tension between them became explosive.
Evan’s breathing turned cold and heavy.
“I may not be as powerful as you,” Amos said, “but I’m far more willing to risk my life.”
After what happened with General Litt, Amos had once believed that he and Evan were the same kind of man.
Both of them had been willing to risk everything for the women they loved.
Now Amos realized he had been wrong.
The moment Evan was forced to choose, the woman he claimed to love no longer mattered.
Amos was different.
He had severed ties with his entire family for Ivy.
His voice turned dangerous.
“Don’t force me to drive you out of Seaborne.”
Evan had his own influence here.
But he had spent most of his earlier years in Harbor City, so his network in Seaborne was nowhere near as deep or complicated as Amos’s.
If they truly went to war with each other, Evan would not necessarily win.
Evan stared at Amos, his gaze growing colder.
“If we turn against each other, Felix and Aaron will be the ones who benefit,” Amos said.
“But you’d better think carefully, Evan. If you seriously try to use Ivy, then I’m willing to give up Seaborne altogether.”
Amos was willing to destroy everything.
But was Evan?
Evan’s expression darkened further.
Amos stormed out.
Evan remained seated for a long time, unable to recover.
The pressure in his chest felt suffocating.
Amos was pushing back against him.
Look at how Evan treated the woman he supposedly loved.
How much loyalty could Amos possibly expect from him as a friend?
Amos, on the other hand, had always treated Evan sincerely.
That was simply the kind of man Amos was.
When he valued a friendship, he gave it everything he had.
But once he realized that loyalty was not mutual, he could destroy that bond without hesitation.
That was exactly what had happened between him and Aaron.
Before Ivy’s incident, the two men had once been extremely close.
Afterward, Amos had severed that friendship completely without looking back.
…
Ivy went to find Stella.
She told her everything Evan had suggested, exactly as Amos had described it.
Given Ivy’s temper, Evan was lucky she did not deliberately make Stella hate him even more.
Expecting Ivy to defend him at a time like this was nothing but a fantasy.
