Chapter 1085
Hearing Stella point out the fundamental difference between them, Felix gave a bitter smile.
A woman truly never forgot when someone hurt her.
Once that line had been crossed, she would remember every old wound.
It was as though that barrier between them could never be overcome.
“It won’t happen again,” Felix said.
He would never hurt her again.
Everything he had done this time was meant to pull her completely free from the nightmare of her past and the interests that had trapped her.
Once she was no longer surrounded by those conflicts, why would he ever need to hurt her again?
Stella seemed to understand exactly what he was thinking.
She laughed softly.
“Who knows what you’ll decide you want next time?”
Felix went still.
What would he want next time?
What else could he possibly want?
“There won’t be a next time,” he said firmly.
No matter what happened in the future, he would never let go of her again.
Stella did not believe a single word.
What did it matter how certain he sounded now?
Felix ran a hand over her hair.
“My people are stationed all over town. Don’t think about running, all right?”
Stella looked up at him.
His people were everywhere?
He truly had taken every possible precaution against her.
“You’re still injured,” Felix continued. “If you try to run now, you’ll only make yourself suffer.”
“If you insist on fighting me, at least wait until you’ve fully recovered. All right?”
She was already hurt.
Outside, the town was buried beneath snow and ice.
If she tried to escape now, she would suffer terribly.
And she would not get far.
“You injured my leg yourself. How could I possibly run?”
Was that why Felix had shot her leg?
To make sure she could not escape?
He really had planned every detail.
How could a man like him not be terrifying?
Felix leaned down and kissed her forehead.
Stella instinctively turned away.
“What’s wrong?”
“Don’t make them again. I don’t like them.”
“You’ve been enjoying everything all week. Why don’t you like them all of a sudden?”
Her appetite had been good throughout the week.
Why had that suddenly changed?
But Felix soon understood.
She had eaten the food before because she had not known he was the one who made it.
Stella stared at him coldly without answering.
“You won’t like the local food here,” Felix said. “I only want you to recover as quickly as possible.”
She was injured.
She needed to eat well if she wanted to heal.
“Hypocrite.”
When Felix said he wanted her to recover, Stella heard nothing but hypocrisy.
The word struck him painfully.
For the first time, he began to understand why she had become so distant from Evan.
Evan must have seemed just as hypocritical to her.
And now she had placed Felix in the same category as him.
Did she believe everything either of them did was nothing but hypocrisy?
