Chapter 1094
For the past two weeks, Amos had not offered Evan a single word of comfort.
There was nothing he could say anyway.
When Yara arrived, she found Evan sitting motionless on the couch, his eyes empty.
It was as though all the life had been drained out of him.
With Stella gone, his soul seemed to have gone with her.
And in Seaborne, Evan was not the only one suffering.
Yara was barely holding herself together either.
Guilt and self-blame had swallowed her whole.
Amos looked at Evan.
“Who are you putting on this miserable act for now?”
He was genuinely fed up.
Evan did not move.
“When you made that decision, you should’ve known this could happen.
“You had a choice between keeping her alive and throwing her into uncertainty, and you chose the one where she might die.”
Évan had known perfectly well that the moment Stella left Seaborne, everything would become unpredictable.
Even with Litt dead, there were still plenty of people outside watching Stella.
Yet Evan had taken her away from the safest place she had.
He had willingly pushed her life into uncertainty.
He had understood that better than anyone.
So what was the point of grieving like this now?
Even his grief seemed painfully ironic.
Yara stepped forward and looked at Amos.
Seeing her, Amos said, “Fine. You talk some sense into him.”
Evan had made that decision because of Yara, so Amos had little patience for her now either.
And he was not the only one.
Ever since news of Stella’s death came back, Ivy had barely spoken to Yara.
Once resentment took root, it could become almost impossible to overcome.
Even when someone had not intended any harm, people could still blame them for what happened because of them.
That was exactly where Yara found herself.
Amos left.
Only Yara and Evan remained.
She walked over and called softly, “Evan.”
His voice was hoarse.
“I don’t want to see you right now.”
Yara froze.
Those were the first words Evan had spoken to her in two weeks.
He had barely acknowledged anyone during that time.
And now, the first thing he said to her was that he did not want to see her.
Was he blaming her too?
Did he blame her for everything that had happened?
Yara’s chest tightened painfully.
“I told you not to come,” she said through her tears. “I begged you not to come. Why didn’t you listen?”
She had pleaded with him over the phone.
Begged him not to come.
Especially not with Stella.
The moment Yara realized Evan intended to bring Stella back to Eirden, she had panicked.
She had warned him over and over on that call.
But in the end, Evan had still brought Stella with him.
