Every word pressed down on Evan until he could barely breathe.
He knew.
He had always known.
He knew Stella had wanted nothing more than to get away from him.
Back in Harbor City, the only reason she hadn’t divorced him sooner was because staying married had given her a legitimate reason to go after the Wright family.
The moment everything with his family was finally settled, the first thing she had wanted was a divorce.
Looking back, it seemed like almost every fight between them had eventually come back to that same issue.
Divorce.
And now she was gone.
No.
Maybe she wasn’t.
But either way, everything between them was still revolving around divorce.
“Just give her what she wanted, okay?” Yara said softly after seeing the pain in his eyes.
Evan said nothing.
“Even if it’s the last thing you ever do for her.”
He remained silent.
“She was never happy when she was with you. And you never really did anything for her. So let this be the one thing you do.”
Yara’s words pierced straight into Evan’s chest.
She said Stella had never been happy with him.
And that he had never done anything for her.
Evan looked at Yara, the pressure in his chest growing heavier.
“I never did anything for her?”
“No.”
Yara didn’t hesitate.
“Even when she was fighting with the Wright family, you never once stood on her side. And when it came to Summer...”
“Enough!”
Evan finally couldn’t take it anymore.
Especially once Summer’s name came up.
Every extra word felt unbearable.
Yara knew that name had hit exactly where it hurt.
She drew in a breath.
“So let her go, okay? If this is what she wanted.”
She had overheard his call with Leon.
Evan had told Leon to let Jennifer go.
But shouldn’t Evan do the same for Stella?
Evan remained silent.
