Monique’s face went pale all over again.
She hated to admit it, but Jennifer was right.
What good was all this pride doing her?
If Leon had been unwaveringly devoted to her, then so what if she had to swallow her pride in front of his family?
If she and Jennifer could trade places, Monique would gladly throw her pride away.
But now...
Other than the Redson family’s support, what did she actually have?
And what use was their approval anyway?
The person she truly wanted was Leon.
No one else mattered.
In this relationship, Leon was the only one who did.
The realization made Monique’s chest ache so badly she could barely breathe.
In the end, she didn’t even remember how she left.
...
On the way back to the Redson estate, Monique felt cold all over.
Her phone suddenly buzzed.
Leon.
The sight of his name sent a dull ache through her chest.
She answered.
“Hello?”
“You went to see her again?”
Leon’s icy voice came through the phone.
He had never spoken to her like this back when they were still just friends.
Ever since her feelings had come out into the open, everything between them had become strained.
All the ease they used to have was gone.
For one brief moment, Monique actually regretted it.
Maybe spending the rest of her life by Leon’s side the way they had been before wouldn’t have been so bad.
Why had everything had to change?
“I...”
“What did you say to her this time?”
Leon cut her off before she could finish, his voice turning even colder.
Monique fell silent.
What had she said to Jennifer?
Honestly, she had barely gotten a few words out.
Jennifer had been the one tearing into her.
If anyone had left that conversation shaken, it was Monique.
She asked quietly, “What did she tell you?”
