God knew that after everything that had happened with Jennifer lately, Vivian had developed an almost instinctive dislike for that last name.
“So she’s in Warren City now?”
“No. The couple who adopted her passed away years ago. We still don’t know where the young woman is now.”
Vivian fell silent.
They were dead?
And they had been dead for years.
“So that means she’s been on her own all these years?”
“Yes.”
Vivian’s chest tightened.
After all these years...
They had finally found a real lead.
For so long, it had been as though every trace of the girl had been deliberately buried. No matter how hard Vivian searched, she could never find anything useful.
At least now they had something to go on.
Vivian drew a deep breath.
“Find her as soon as possible.”
No matter what it took, she needed to find that girl.
“Yes, ma’am.”
The call ended.
Vivian’s grip tightened around her phone.
“At least there’s finally some good news.”
Leon might be driving her out of her mind right now, but if she could find that girl, a burden she had carried for years would finally be lifted.
...
Back in the small town near Sima Mountain, Stella met with Remi alone.
She got straight to the point.
“When did it start?”
Remi blinked.
“What?”
“Felix.”
Remi fell silent.
At the sound of his name, the corners of her lips curved slightly.
“You figured it out?”
“You said you didn’t come here for me. That only leaves Felix.”
Remi nodded.
“Yes. I came here for him.”
She paused.
“I know you don’t like him, so...”
She let the sentence trail off.
Remi knew Stella didn’t want anyone anymore.
Maybe she never would again.
