Chapter 1234
But as time went on, Stella realized Remi hadn’t actually done anything.
Which only made her even more confused about why Remi had come here in the first place.
Especially when Remi kept saying she wanted to help her.
Remi looked at her.
“You really don’t remember me?”
Stella frowned.
“What do you mean?”
Remember her?
Had they met before?
“When I went to Harbor City on a mission, I was badly injured,” Remi said. “I was hiding under a bridge.”
“Under a bridge?”
“Yeah. You thought I was homeless.”
Stella went still.
Homeless?
“You tossed me a bag of bread.”
Stella blinked.
Bread?
And then suddenly, she remembered.
There really had been one time when she passed beneath a bridge and saw someone she thought was homeless.
She had tossed the person a bag of bread.
“I hadn’t eaten in two days,” Remi continued. “And I was so badly injured that I couldn’t even leave that spot.”
Stella stared at her in shock.
“You were that…”
She stopped herself before saying homeless woman.
Remi had already said Stella had mistaken her for one.
And Stella really had.
“I didn’t realize you were hurt.”

Stella fell silent.
So that was why Remi wanted to help her?
Then another question occurred to her.
“What about Felix?”
life.
She had noticed Remi’s hostility toward him this whole time.
At first, Remi claimed she had come because of Felix.
But more than once, Stella had caught the look in Remi’s eyes when she looked at him.
There had been killing intent there.
So maybe Remi really had come because of Felix.
Just not for the flippant reason she had given before.
At the mention of Felix, Remi looked at Stella.
“The people who injured me that time worked for him.”
Then she added,
“You probably heard of someone when you were in Seaborne.”
“Who?”
“Reci.”
Stella froze.
Remi.
Reci.
“She was…?”
“My best friend. We grew up together.”
They had trained together since they were children.
Stella said nothing.
She had heard of Reci before.
Reci had died a long time ago.
But Stella had never known much about her, so she had no idea what Reci had meant to Remi.
Now, seeing the hatred that flashed through Remi’s eyes when she mentioned her, Stella understood.

So Reci…
“She died at the hands of Felix’s people.”
Stella’s heart tightened.
Just as she thought.
“She and I grew up together,” Remi said. “Whenever there was a mission, we went together.”
Always together.
What kind of bond was that?
The kind where two people were practically inseparable.
And in the end, Remi had been the only one left.
Stella looked at her.
“So you want Felix dead?”
So she hadn’t been wrong.
Remi really had come here with an agenda.
And technically, she hadn’t lied.
She had come because of Felix.
Just not because she was interested in him.
She wanted his life.
“He deserves to die,” Remi said through clenched teeth.
Stella’s chest tightened again.
Deserves to die.
Another grudge.
Another blood debt.
Sometimes the world really did feel terrifyingly small.
“But not yet,” Remi added.
Stella looked at her.
“For now, he still needs to keep Evan occupied for you. At least he cares enough to do that.”
If Felix dared hurt Stella again this time…
Remi would make sure he never left Sima Mountain alive.

Chapter 1235
Stella had never imagined that she and Remi shared a history like that.
She had never known.
“When did you recognize me?” Stella asked.
“Not that long ago,” Remi said. “I didn’t recognize you at first either.”
Stella said nothing.
“If I had, I probably would’ve taken you away back in Sevi Valley. I never would’ve given them the chance to hurt you.”
Remi really hadn’t recognized Stella at first.
It had only been through a chance encounter later that she finally realized who she was.
Stella smiled.
But there was a trace of bitterness in it.
Remi looked at her.
“So can you trust me now?”
“Yeah.”
Maybe not.
Stella didn’t say that out loud.
There were some things in this world she had learned not to trust too easily.
Even though Remi had now explained why she wanted to help her, and Stella did remember the incident she described, she still couldn’t bring herself to believe her completely.
She had been hurt too many times.
Now, no matter who it was, what happened, or what explanation they gave her, earning her trust was almost impossible.
