Let’s Divorce Mrs. Wright Is Done Playing Nice novel Chapter 147

Chapter 147

Unable to hold back his frustration, Evan suddenly lifted the bowl and drank the soup in one go.

“Fine. I’ll drink it. Let’s see if it sends me to the hospital.”

Stella: “…”

What is wrong with him?

Evan set the bowl down, but he still didn’t leave.

He looked at her back, hesitated for a moment, then asked, “That ‘brother you mentioned just now… who is he?”

He had caught that one word the moment he pushed the door open.

Brother.

She had grown up in an orphanage. What brother could she possibly have?

The moment he said it, Stella’s breathing faltered.

Just for a second.

Then she steadied herself.

“What brother?” she said coolly. “You think I’m like Summer, with some powerful family backing me?”

Evan: “…”

“Well, sorry to disappoint you. I don’t,” she went on. “So yeah, the Wright family really got the short end of the stick marrying someone like me.’

The sarcasm in her voice was sharp enough to cut.

Evan’s jaw tightened, irritation flaring again.

He stared at her back, about to say something-

But his phone rang.

He glanced at the screen and hung up immediately.

After one last look at her, he stood. “Get some rest. I’ll have the kitchen send food up when it’s ready.”

With her, he was trying to compromise as much as he could.

Even rules he used to enforce strictly, like no eating in the bedroom, had all been pushed aside.

Evan walked out.

The moment he stepped into the hallway, his phone rang again.

This time, he answered. “What is it now?”

The impatience in his tone, especially that ‘now’, made it obvious-

It was probably Summer.

Or the child she had given birth to.

Stella picked up her phone and dialed Gray.

He answered almost immediately. “Miss.”

“Summer’s child… is there really something wrong?”

“There is,” Gray said. “One of them has a severe heart condition. The baby’s in critical care. It’s touch and go.”

Stella: “”

That small… and already fighting for their life?

“Mr. Wright has already sent people to the Eirden to find Professor Jane Gass.

Stella’s brows knit. “He went to her?”

Jane Gass.

Of course she knew that name.

The world’s top cardiac specialist.

No matter how complicated the case, if it landed in her hands, she could pull someone back even when they were already halfway to death.

In the Eirden, people said she could wrestle patients back from the Grim Reaper.

Countless wealthy families turned to her first, whether it was a heart condition or not.

Cardiology was her specialty.

But Stella’s own biotech company had made its biggest breakthrough thanks to a few pointers from Professor Gass a year ago.

She was not someone you could just invite.

Her temper was notoriously bad.

And now that she was nearing retirement, she had stepped back almost completely.

She did not like being disturbed.

“Yes,” Gray confirmed. “Someone’s already been sent. So her son’s condition is real.”

Summer’s depression had been an act.

But her son’s illness was real.

“Your brother has already reached out to Professor Gass as well. He’s arranged-”

“That won’t be necessary.”
