Chapter 202
On the drive back, Evan made call after call.
Every single one was about Dr. Gass.
The updates he was getting were bad.
And with each call, his face grew colder.
He had just hung up one call when Dora called again.
“The doctor says the baby’s condition is very serious. You have to get Dr. Gass here.”
Evan was already in a foul mood over Dr. Gass.
The woman was almost impossible to bring in.
The people he’d sent had tried every angle just to get a meeting with her.
And every single time, they hit a wall.
At this point, just hearing the name Dr. Gass made his head pound.
“I don’t care what method you use,” Dora snapped. “You need to bring her here!
“And right now, I’d also like you to spend a little more of your energy on the child. Can you take even half the attention you’re wasting on that woman and put it on him instead?”
Her voice was full of frustration.
Every word carried the same accusation. In her mind, if he still hadn’t brought Dr. Gass back, then it was because he hadn’t tried hard enough.
Evan’s face turned dark. “I am trying, aren’t I?”
What did she think Dr. Gass was, some random person he could summon with a call?
If she were that easy to bring in, she wouldn’t have the reputation she did.
“I’m saying you need to care more about the child,” Dora shot back. “He’s your brother’s only son.”
Hearing Evan’s temper rise too, Dora forced herself to dial hers back a little.
Evan laughed coldly. “Want me to hand over my life too? Would that satisfy you?”
Dora choked. “You know that’s not what I meant….”
“You want me to take some of my attention off my wife? Tell me, what exactly is the conflict between the two?”
Dora: “You…”
“I’ll say it clearly then. I can’t spare even a little. And if you think I care too little about the child, then you care more.”

”
Stella: “…”
At this point, Evan really did look like a man being driven out of his mind.
Now no matter who said anything to him he fired it right back.
Even if that person was his own mother.
Dora was shaking with anger. “You really are trying to kill me.”
Evan’s jaw tightened. “I’m telling you right now. Whether you like Stella or not is your problem, but stop dragging her into everything.
“What does any of this have to do with her?”
Dora: “…”
This was insane.
She couldn’t say a single thing anymore.
The moment Stella came up, he would answer one word with ten more in her defense.
As if she were the one always targeting Stella.
Furious, Dora hung up.
She couldn’t keep talking to him.
Especially not about Stella.
Evan tossed the phone aside.
Listening to how little Dora was even trying to hide now, he understood more and more just how much Stella had suffered.
He reached out, intending to pull her into his arms.
But the moment his hand touched her, he felt something wet.
Evan’s breathing stopped.
He looked down and saw that at some point, Stella’s face had gone completely pale.
Then he looked at his palm.
Blood.
