Chapter 387
Evan pinched the ache between his brows, then stood and went upstairs without another word.
After all, he had no way to deal with Stella now.
Even if he wanted to comfort Dora and Fiona through action, there was nothing he could do.
Evan left.
Once only Dora and Fiona remained, Fiona looked at Dora with tears shining in her eyes. “We were almost done with the stairs. We could’ve traded the work for dinner.”
But Evan had kicked over the bucket.
Dora closed her eyes. “Then we’ll do it again.”
Before, she had refused to lower her head.
But now that she had seen Evan get beaten down in front of Stella too, she finally understood.
No one could do anything to Stella now unless they took away the person backing her.
“Tomorrow, listen to Summer and go see Felix.”
Fiona nodded. “Okay.”
She would go see Felix.
No matter what their next plan was, as long as Felix stood behind Stella, nothing they tried would be easy.
So she had to find a way to win Felix over.
In the end, after being tormented until midnight, Dora and Fiona finally earned one meal.
By then, they were starving.
The food looked completely unappetizing.
Even though they were hungry, it was still hard to swallow.
Dora forced herself to eat half. Fiona finished all of hers.
Dora took the remaining half to Summer.
Mrs. Mendes had stayed in Summer’s room the entire time.
She had arrived quite late today.
After she arrived, she had been busy helping Summer settle in. She had not expected the situation in the Wright family to be this bad, and she had not managed to get dinner either.
She was just thinking about going to the kitchen to make something for Summer when she saw Dora come in with half a bowl of what looked like leftovers.
At the sight of it, Mrs. Mendes frowned. “Mrs. Wright, our young lady is still recovering after giving birth.

Is this what your family is feeding her?”
Summer had not told Mrs. Mendes anything.
When she came back today, she had been too exhausted to even speak.
Although she had been hungry, she had still fallen asleep.
Now, hearing Mrs. Mendes’s words, she instinctively lifted her head and glanced at the food Dora had brought in.
In that moment, Summer’s expression changed several times,
Dora was exhausted too, and she had not eaten enough.
After being tormented by Stella until she had no strength left, hearing Mrs. Mendes say that made her force down another wave of anger.
“I scrubbed floors to get this. What else do you want me to do?”
Now, she no longer cared about humiliating herself in front of a Bailey family servant.
She was truly worn out.
If this had been before, she would have restrained herself in front of someone from the Bailey family because she had to consider Ruby.
But now, she could not care anymore.
She had been tormented to this point. What did pride even matter?
Mrs. Mendes’s face darkened. “You scrubbed floors?”
She looked at Dora in disbelief, then turned to Summer.
Dora did not want to explain. She set the food down and turned to leave.
The door slammed shut behind her.
Mrs. Mendes shuddered, then looked at the leftover food Dora had left behind before looking back at
Summer.
Summer closed her eyes in frustration. “Mrs. Mendes, where are you staying right now?”
The Bailey family’s properties had either been burned down or smashed up.
