Chapter 512
If Dora and Fiona were suffering now, then Summer was suffering even more.
Frank called her.
On the phone, he said, “Stop Evan from investigating us!”
He was clearly trying to suppress his rage, but Summer could still hear the irritation in his voice.
Summer said nothing.
She was already miserable enough from being crushed by Stella.
Now, hearing that something had happened on Frank’s end too, she felt even worse.
“He’s still investigating you?”
“What else?” Frank snapped. “Summer Bailey, you’ve really screwed me over this time. You’ve screwed over the entire Holland family!
“I already told you we shouldn’t meet during this period, but you refused to listen. Now Evan caught us red- handed. Are you happy?”
Summer fell silent.
Was she happy?
No.
Of course she was not happy.
Frank was nearly losing his mind from Evan’s investigation, but hadn’t she paid a price too?
Even though she had pushed the blame onto Stella this time, Evan no longer trusted her as much as before. On top of that, Stella was targeting her even more viciously.
It was cold.
Truly cold.
The hand holding the phone was so frozen that it felt as if the blood had stopped flowing.
There was a saying about pain becoming numb.
People thought that once something went numb, it no longer hurt.
Only now did Summer realize that numbness could still hurt.
Her fingers felt stiff and dead, but they still ached sharply from the cold.
“How am I supposed to stop him from investigating?” she said. “You know very well that the moment he started looking into us, it meant he no longer trusted me.”
If she went to Evan now and told him to stop investigating her and Frank, it would only make him even more suspicious.
“I don’t care. You caused this, so you fix it,” Frank said coldly.

He had already said they should not meet for the time being, but Summer had refused to listen.
That was what had led to this mess.
“If my family is ruined because of you, Summer Bailey, then you can go die by yourself.”
Summer’s face turried even paler at those cruel, heartless words.
“Frank, you have no conscience! Have you forgotten what I did for you before?”
“Don’t say you did it for me! You’re the shameless slut who threw herself at me. Steven Wright was just the idiot who got played.”
“You…”
“Handle this properly, and you still have a chance to become Mrs. Holland. Otherwise…”
Otherwise what?
Frank did not finish the sentence. He simply hung up.
Summer was already freezing all over. Her hand holding the phone was numb from the cold.
Now, listening to the disconnected tone, she felt as if a hollow space had opened in her chest.
For the first time, she wondered if her choice had been a mistake from the very beginning.
Frank had used her.
She had been wrong.
Mrs. Mendes had been assigned to work with Summer. From a distance, she saw Summer stop moving again.
Furious, Mrs. Mendes walked over and snapped, “What are you doing now? Hurry up and sweep so we can find somewhere out of the wind!”
If Summer did not sweep such a large area, Mrs. Mendes would have to do even more.
It was freezing outside.
Mrs. Mendes just wanted to finish quickly and find somewhere slightly warmer.
Even if there was no heat, anywhere sheltered from the wind would do.
