Chapter 568
A chance to live.
What was the child’s chance to live?
Dr. Jane Gass.
That name was not unfamiliar to either Evan or Summer these days.
Every specialist and professor the hospital had brought in to examine the child had said the same thing. They needed to bring
Dr. Gass in.
And now, Stella knew Dr. Gass.
She had made herself clear.
As long as they confirmed the child was Steven’s, she would save him.
She would have Dr. Gass come to Harbor City and personally consult on the child’s case.
But if the child was not Steven’s, then she would not get involved.
This was what Summer got for trying to use their relationship against her.
“Weren’t you just saying I’m the child’s aunt? That we’re all part of the Wright family? Fine. I admit I’m still part of the Wright family. But only if the child is part of the Wright family too.”
She had not divorced Evan yet, so technically, she was still a Wright.
But whether the child was a Wright was a different matter.
It was not enough for Summer to say the child belonged to Steven. That did not make it true.
Stella’s voice was still light.
But to Summer, it sounded brutally aggressive.
Summer could barely breathe.
She turned back and looked at Stella with tear-filled eyes.
“The child is Steven’s.”
“I told you. That isn’t true just because you say it is. I’m not Steven. I won’t believe everything you say. After all…”
Stella paused again.
Then she laughed softly.
“I’m not some innocent young girl. And in my eyes, you are not kind, decent, or worthy of trust.”
Summer froze.
Evan froze too.
“So think carefully. Do you want to fight for that one chance of survival for your son or not? After all, I’m not always this easy to talk to.”
Summer’s chest tightened with anger at Stella’s careless tone.
She was forcing her.

She was doing it on purpose, forcing her in front of Evan
Evan was right here. If she kept refusing, wouldn’t that only make him suspect her son’s identity even more?
This vicious woman.
She had truly underestimated how poisonous Stella’s mind could be.
“I will not let my son carry a stain like that for the rest of his life,” Summer said, clenching her fists.
Stella said, “Then you’re choosing not to let him live?”
“Dr. Gass has been refusing to come to Harbor City because of you, hasn’t he?” Summer asked through gritted teeth.
During this time, both her mother and the Wright family had sent people to find Dr. Gass.
But Dr. Gass either refused to meet them, or when they finally managed to see him, he flatly refused to come to Harbor City.
When Evan heard Summer bring up Stella’s connection to Dr. Gass again, the look he gave Stella grew deeper.
Suspicion slowly rose in his heart.
Stella said, “Does it matter now whether I asked him to refuse?”
“Stella, come after me if you want. My child is only a tiny baby. You wanted to be a mother too. How can you be this cruel to a baby?”
The thought that Dr. Gass’s refusal to come to Harbor City might have something to do with Stella made Summer’s breathing tighten.
Stella said, “Are you sure you still want to blame this on me?”
Summer froze.
Evan froze too.
Stella’s words were sharp.
There was a clear warning in that sharpness, aimed straight at Summer.
“You really need to fix that habit. After all, provoking me like this won’t do you any good now.”
Summer had gotten too used to putting blame on Stella.
Otherwise, how could she use this tactic so naturally?
She might be used to it, but Stella would no longer indulge her.

Whether it would benefit Summer was another matter.
But Stella would do what she said.
For the sake of how Steven had repeatedly spoken up for her when he was alive and had told Dora off so many times, if this child really was the son Steven had left behind in this world, she would save him.
If not, then it truly had nothing to do with her.
Hearing the firm certainty in Stella’s voice, Summer clenched her fists. Her whole body shook with anger.
Cruel
She was truly cruel.
Summer had never imagined that Stella could be this hard-hearted toward a child.
