Chapter 58
After leaving Wright Group, Stella went straight to the biotech company.
Gray brought her lunch.
When Jennifer heard she was there, she came by to eat with her.
“With a brother like yours,” Jennifer said, sitting down across from her, “I honestly don’t know what you’re still working so hard for. Your body needs rest right now.”
“I’m fine,” Stella replied calmly. “If I felt unwell, I’d rest.”
She lifted her fork.
“And this isn’t pushing myself. I’ve invested too much into this project. We’re at a critical stage. I can’t just walk away now.”
Jennifer couldn’t argue with that. She nodded.
“That’s true.’
She ran a company herself. She understood what it meant to see something you built finally nearing fruition.
At a certain point in life, time and autonomy became priceless.
Jennifer placed a piece of meat into Stella’s bowl.
“Eat more.”
“You too. These are good.”
“I’ve already had a few,” Jennifer said with a small smile. “The chef at Mount Pansworth really knows what he’s doing.”
She picked up another rib and added casually,
“Oh, by the way. Ruby’s on her way back today.”
“I know.”
Jennifer blinked. “Of course you do. I forgot you have a very powerful brother now.”
With Aaron Hogarth backing her, Stella wasn’t missing any important updates.
Still, Jennifer’s expression grew serious.
“Be careful. That woman is ruthless. She won’t make a move openly but she’ll definitely set traps behind
the scenes.”
Publicly, Evan would still protect Stella, no matter what he said.
But Ruby? There was no telling what she might already be orchestrating behind the scenes.
Stella stayed calm.

“She won’t have the energy.”
Jennifer frowned. “What do you mean?”
Stella met her eyes.
“Let’s see what matters more to her – her daughter, or her standing among the elite.’
Jennifer understood immediately.
Stella already had something in motion.
After a brief pause, Jennifer asked, “Evan still doesn’t believe you miscarried?”
Stella gave a small, almost amused exhale. “Not only does he not believe it – he asked why I would fake a miscarriage just to frame Summer.”
Her voice was steady.
No hurt. No anger.
If this had happened a few months ago, it would have devastated her.
Now?
It barely registered.
Jennifer nearly lost her appetite. 1
“That idiot. What kind of spell does Summer have him under? He used to treat you so well.”
And it was true.
There was a time when Evan had loved Stella deeply.
The kind of love where you’re cherished, protected, and held at the center of someone’s world.
But these past six months?
The things he’d done for Summer felt almost cruel.
As if the years he’d shared with Stella had never existed.
Stella shrugged.

“Whatever spell it is, he can stay under it for life. It has nothing to do with me anymore.”
There was no sorrow in her voice.
Only detachment.
Jennifer felt a little relieved hearing that.
After lunch, Jennifer left.
