I wasn’t,” she interrupted. “But this is who I am. If you can’t handle it, divorce me.

Silence.

“As long as we’re still married,” she continued, “no one is getting peace.”

“And your mother’s little friendship with Ruby? I’m guessing that won’t survive this.”

“This won’t benefit you,” he warned.

“I’m past caring about benefits,” she replied coolly. “I’ve already lost face. If I’m going down, I’m taking everyone with me.”

There was nothing left to salvage in her voice.

Only resolve.

Evan couldn’t take it anymore.

He answered a call and left.

Before he walked out, he instructed everyone in Inkwood not to let Stella leave.

The moment he was gone, her phone rang.

“Miss,” Gray said.

“What is it?”

“I just got word. Ruby Bailey sent people to thrash your place at Azure Heights.”

Stella glanced at the time.

Nearly ten.

Impressive.

Ruby hadn’t even settled in and had already made her move.

Not just retaliation.

A warning.

Stella lifted her glass and took a sip of water.

Then she said evenly, “Ruby owns one primary estate here, and two smaller villas.”

There was a brief pause.

“Trash the villas.”

Another pause.

“As for the main estate…”

Her voice dropped, colder than before,

“Burn it.”

There was no hesitation on the other end

“I’ll take care of it.”

“And make sure Jennifer and the orphanage are secured.”

Ruby was back.

What came next would not be quiet.

“Everything’s already arranged,” Gray replied.

Chapter 67

At the hospital.

Ruby Bailey had arrived and from the moment she stepped in, she made her displeasure toward Dora

obvious.

Every word carried an edge.

Implying Dora had failed to take care of Summer.

Failed to rein Stella in.

Dora swallowed her frustration.

As soon as Ruby entered Summer’s room, Dora quickly found an excuse and left with Fiona to check on the

babies.

Inside the elevator, Fiona bristled.

“What does Mrs. Bailey mean by that? After everything blew up, you’ve been protecting Summer nonstop. How can she blame you?”

“Enough,” Dora said stiffly. “She’s not wrong. That Stella was never properly handled.”

A woman had just given birth. That was the most vulnerable time of her life.

And Stella kept escalating things.

Now Summer, Ruby even the entire Wright family were suffering reputational damage.

“That’s Stella’s fault,” Fiona muttered. “Not yours.

Dora was furious too.

But she didn’t dare argue with Ruby.

And truthfully, she did feel sorry for Summer.

Inside the hospital room.

Only Ruby and Summer remained, along with two female bodyguards.

Ruby, sharp bob haircut and impeccably dressed in a tailored Chanel jacket, cast an icy look at the guards.

“What is this? I can’t visit my own daughter without being monitored?”

The guards exchanged glances.

One stepped aside and called Evan for instructions.

After he approved it, they left the room.

The door closed.

Ruby took a seat beside Summer’s bed.

“Pathetic,” she said coldly, “You let a girl from an orphanage push you around like this?”

Anger simmered beneath her voice.

She still had major negotiations pending overseas –

contracts not yet finalized.

The situation in Harbor City had spiraled so badly she had flown back personally to handle it.

She would have to return to Europe tomorrow afternoon.

“Stella’s like a different person now,” Summer said bitterly. “She doesn’t listen to anyone.

“And somehow she’s managed to control all those media accounts Even Evan can’t suppress it.”

That part humiliated her the most.

Ruby’s expression darkened further.

“He can’t suppress it?”

Her people had already tried handling things from abroad.

The feedback had been the same.

“This isn’t normal,” Ruby said. “Someone must be backing her.”

Summer shook her head.

“I don’t know.”

But now that her mother said it, doubt crept in.

On her own, Stella shouldn’t have had this kind of power.

“Mom,” Summer said urgently, “you have to deal with her.”

She didn’t care who might be helping Stella.

She only wanted Stella punished.

Ruby’s lips pressed into a thin line. The deep red lipstick made her expression even colder.

She adjusted her jacket and let out a soft, humorless laugh.

“Of course I’ll deal with her.

“I’ve already had people trash the condo she bought at Azure Heights.”

Summer’s eyes widened.

“She owns a place at Azure Heights?”
