Chapter 719

“What do you mean? You said that once we gave you everything, you’d divorce him. So what is this now? You’ve taken everything, and suddenly you don’t want a divorce?”

Dora was furious.

God knew how desperately she had been waiting for Stella and Evan to divorce.

She wanted them to divorce.

It would be better that way.

The longer a woman like Stella remained tied to the Wright family, the more danger she posed to them.

Hearing Dora’s frantic accusation, especially the way she made it sound as though Stella was the one refusing to divorce, Stella’s lips curved into a mocking smile.

“What exactly do you think your son is? You think I’m the one refusing to divorce him? Your son is the one who won’t divorce me. He ran.”

Dora said nothing.

Fiona said nothing.

Dora’s attack on Stella came right back at her.

It had been like this for a while now.

She kept trying to drag Stella into an argument, but was Stella someone she could still drag around?

Dora’s breathing turned ragged with anger.

“You should still be able to contact your son, right? Why don’t you call him and ask what exactly he thinks he’s doing?”

Dora said nothing.

“Why run off in the first place?” Stella’s tone became even more mocking.

The word “run” made Dora’s chest heave with rage.

“Stop talking nonsense. He can’t possibly be unwilling to divorce you!” Dora snapped.

She had seen clearly enough how badly Evan had wanted to divorce Stella lately.

Now Stella was saying Evan did not want a divorce?

How could that be possible?

And what was this about Evan running away?

Who was Stella trying to humiliate?

Hadn’t she tormented them enough already? Did she have to keep using words like that to shame Evan too?

Stella said, “But he did run. What else am I supposed to call it?”

“You…”

Dora’s face turned even paler.

Stella said, “You don’t like the way that sounds? Then bring him back and make him finish this. Otherwise, you’il be hearing it for the rest of your lives.”

Stella’s words made Dora’s head pound.

They had barely survived the past few months, and Stella was saying they might have to hear this forever?

Wasn’t she trying to make their lives unbearable?

“Is he really refusing to divorce you?” Dora asked, almost breathlessly.

She still did not want to believe it.

Stella lifted a brow. “I already have everything I wanted. Why would I keep him around? He’s hardly some prize.

No mother could stand hearing someone talk about her son that way.

But Stella was speaking with such certainty that Dora had no choice but to believe her.

Stella was right.

Ever since she learned Dora had caused her mother’s death, all Stella had wanted was the Wright family’s ruin.

As for Evan, her heart had long since gone cold.

So the one refusing the divorce could not possibly be Stella.
