Chapter 824
The silence between them was heavy.
After hanging up on Vivian, neither Leon nor Jennifer spoke.
He finished his coffee quickly.
For a moment, he wanted a cigarette.
But when his eyes fell on Jennifer’s stomach, he gave up the thought.
“If you want one, smoke,” Jennifer said.
She knew him well enough.
Leon usually hid his emotions perfectly, but whenever he was irritated, he liked to smoke.
She was not even being careful with herself right now.
Why should he be?
“You shouldn’t have hurt her today.”
Jennifer went still.
“Especially not her face.”
When he mentioned Monique’s face, his tone grew noticeably heavier.
He clearly thought Jennifer had gone too far.

No matter how hostile she had felt toward Monique, she should not have picked up a knife.
Especially not aimed at her face.
Jennifer laughed.
“So what now? Are you really going to make me pay for it?”
Just listen to the way he spoke.
Did he not already believe she had hurt Monique?
“Wow. You really do think I’m that cruel.”
There was more mockery directed at herself than at him.
She and Leon had known each other for a while.
Yet he still understood her this little.
Or maybe he simply believed Monique was the kind, uncomplicated one.
The tomboy he had grown up with.
The person he thought he knew best.
So when it came down to it, Jennifer was the one he had decided was in the wrong.

Hearing the sarcasm in her voice, Leon looked at her with his lips pressed together.
He did not respond.
Then what is there left to say?” Jennifer asked. “You trust Monique so much. Give her the explanation yourself. Do what your mother wants and marry her.”
Was that not what the Redson family wanted?
If Leon did not marry Monique, there would probably be even more trouble ahead.
“Why are you saying things you don’t mean?”
“If you don’t marry her, then I’m the one who could end up in jail, right? Since you believe I hurt her, sacrifice little for me.”
The sarcasm in her voice was impossible to miss.
Leon’s face darkened.
Their eyes met.
“We haven’t known each other for only a day or two,” Jennifer said. “I never expected you to trust me this little. But whatever. Your trust does not seem to mean much against your family’s attitude anyway.”
Maybe Leon not trusting her was a good thing.
If he did trust her, that would be the real problem.
“Why did you pick up the knife?” Leon finally asked.
He wanted to know what had happened between Jennifer and Monique.
From what he knew of Jennifer, she was not the type to grab a knife over nothing.
And Monique…
Monique was not the kind of person to say things just to provoke someone.
So where had it all gone wrong?
“I wanted to hurt her.”
Jennifer did not want his trust.
So she did not bother explaining.
Better to make the Redsons get exactly what they wanted and push their relationship straight to the breaking point.
“You…”
Leon’s face turned even darker.
“Do you still want me to have your baby now?” Jennifer asked. “I’m a terrible person, remember?”
Leon said nothing.
This woman’s mouth really could make him furious.
Hearing the sarcasm in her voice, Leon looked at her with his lips pressed together.
He did not respond.
