Chapter 000

“I have to go?”

Stella closed her eyes.

A suffocating chill seemed to radiate from her entire body.

Jack nodded.

“Yes.”

“I don’t get to decide for myself?”

“Not right now.”

There were many things Jack could not explain.

And they were not his place to explain anyway.

His only task was to bring Stella to Felix.

She still did not move.

Jack glanced at his watch.

“If you still refuse, we’ll have to…”

“Use force?”

Stella cut him off.

Jack said nothing.

He simply looked at her in silence, confirming the rest without words.

Stella nodded.

“Fine. I’ll walk. Being dragged out of my own home would be humiliating.”

She slapped a hand against the armrest and rose.

Then she gave Jack a small shrug.

“Shall we?”

“Would you like someone to pack a few things you’re used to having?”

“I’m walking into my own funeral. What would I need luggage for?”

Jack fell silent.

His headache worsened.

The misunderstanding had clearly gone far too deep.

But whatever needed explaining would have to come from Felix himself.

Besides, lack did not know the full truth either.

Stella left the Hogarth estate empty-handed with Jack and the others.

As she got into the car, she looked back one final time at the castle she had once been so excited to call home.

She thought silently, Once I leave, I’m never coming back.

This place had turned out to be nothing but a cruel joke.

After only one glance, she looked away.

Jack seemed to understand what she was thinking.

“Don’t worry,” he said gently. “You’ll be back in no more than two weeks.”
