Instead, he had become the person hurting her most.
Evan’s voice hardened.
“Then let me tell you the truth. was the one who had Summer taken out. Stella had nothing to do with it.”
“What did you say?”
Felix was stunned.
At the same time, memories flashed through his mind of all the moments when he had assumed Stella was responsible.
She had not strongly defended herself at the time.
But she must have been bitterly disappointed in him.
Felix had believed he understood her.
Especially when it came to Summer.
That was why he had been so certain Stella had done it.
No wonder there had not even been disappointment in her eyes back then.
She had already gone completely cold toward him.
Felix’s anger surged.
A chill rolled off him, and even his breathing over the phone became heavier.
“Surprised?” Evan said. “Felix, if I had known Summer’s true nature from the beginning, I would have stood with Stella without hesitation. I never would have let her suffer because of that woman.”
The thing Evan regretted most in his life was protecting Summer.
Because of Steven, he had kept shielding her.
And in the end, he had destroyed his own marriage.
He truly regretted it.
So when he saw Stella being dragged through the same nightmare again because of Summer, he had made sure Summer could never hurt her again.
“You know nothing,” Felix said coldly. “What makes you think keeping Summer alive meant I was hurting Stella?”
“Then tell me what it was,” Evan shot back. “Were you protecting Stella somehow? Don’t make me laugh.”
Evan had once made the same ridiculous mistake.
