“You got what you wanted, and now he’s dead. So why are you still pretending you care about me?”
Felix had played the devoted man so convincingly back in Harbor City.
At the time, Stella had even thought there was nothing wrong with marrying twice. If you met the right person, you could still find happiness.
She had been naive enough to believe she was not good enough for Felix.
Her failed marriage to Evan had always made her feel insecure around him.
Looking back now, she could hardly believe how foolish she had been.
One humiliating mistake was enough for a lifetime.
She would never allow this one to continue.
Felix could keep playing the part of the devoted lover, but Stella had no intention of playing along.
Felix sighed.
Then he reached out and caught her arm.
Stella immediately tried to pull away, but he dragged her into his arms.
“Are you grieving for him?”
His broad palm pressed firmly against the back of her head.
There was a trace of displeasure in his deep voice.
“Back in Harbor City, no one wanted him dead more than you did.”
Felix knew better than anyone how deeply Stella had hated Evan.
So what was this now?
Now that Evan was truly dead, did she regret it?
Did she suddenly realize she could not bear to lose him?
Hearing the irritation and faint mockery in Felix’s voice, Stella struggled harder.
“Let go of me!”
Felix was insane.
She had only just realized that Evan’s madness had always been obvious, while Felix hid his behind impeccable manners and a polished smile.
On the surface, he seemed refined and gentle.
Underneath, he was every bit as unhinged.
Being involved with a man like him was terrifying.
You never knew when he would suddenly turn on you.
