“Or is this another trap?”
That was Stella’s first thought now whenever Felix was involved.
After everything that had happened in the Black Sea, she could only assume Felix and Aaron were working together toward some new goal.
And once again, they intended to drag her into the middle of it.
“Don’t think of it that way,” Felix said.
“If General Litt had taken Summer away, I never would’ve been able to settle things with her, would I?”
Felix had barely finished speaking before Stella cut him off coldly.
He wanted to talk?
Fine.
Then they would talk about exactly what he and Aaron had been planning.
Felix’s expression changed.
“Did Evan tell you that?”
“Wasn’t it because of General Litt?”
Felix fell silent.
It had been because of Litt.
But…
“Even if Litt had taken Summer under his protection, she still would’ve paid for what she did to you.”
“Do you honestly think I’ll ever believe you again?”
Felix said nothing.
“I won’t.”
Whatever trust she had once placed in him had been completely exhausted by that one betrayal.
“Summer is dead. Everything involving her should be over now.”
“But instead, you’re dragging me into another mess. Felix, what did I ever do to you? Why can’t you just leave me alone?”
Why could none of them simply let her go?
“There is no new scheme,” Felix said. “We really are…”
“Really getting married?” Stella interrupted. “Then why didn’t anyone bother discussing it with the bride?”
If this was not another plan, why had no one asked her?
Making the decision without her only made the wedding feel like another calculated move, with Stella playing one part in a larger scheme.
She hated that feeling.
And right now, she hated Felix too.
Afterward, neither of them spoke again.
Felix believed her anger was partly because of Evan, and the thought left him bitter.
And Stella was indeed furious with him over what had happened to Evan.
She made no effort to hide it.
By the time they landed in Eirden, Stella still had not spoken another word to Felix.
He was visibly angry too, but he nevertheless drove her back to the Hogarth estate.
She had only been gone for a few days.
Yet standing before the estate again filled her with emotions she could not name.
She remained outside, cold and alone, making no move to enter.
Even the air around the place seemed suffocating now.
The housekeeper and servants waited at the entrance to welcome her home.
But after seeing her expression, no one dared to speak.
Then Gray appeared.
He walked toward her and bowed respectfully.
“Miss Rowan, let’s go inside.”
