Felix’s words finally irritated Aaron.
He could hear the accusation beneath them.
Felix was blaming him, as though the entire situation were his fault.
“You make it sound as if what Litt had meant nothing to you.”
Felix fell silent.
There was no answer he could give.
What General Litt possessed had mattered to him. A great deal.
Aaron leaned back, his expression darkening.
“It seems I never learned how to treat her as my sister.”
That much was true.
Ever since Stella returned, Aaron had treated her as though she had grown up within the Hogarth family and already understood how their world worked.
To people born into the family, choices like these were normal.
When personal feelings conflicted with the family’s interests, the interests came first.
No one had ever objected to that before.
Aaron had assumed Stella would eventually accept it too.
But he had been wrong.
She had grown up far away from power struggles and calculated alliances. Her world had been built around affection rather than advantage.
Naturally, her values and boundaries were different from theirs.
And this time, Aaron and Felix had crossed a line she could not accept.
To her, it had not been a difficult strategic decision.
It had been exploitation.
Felix had no desire to continue arguing.
He rose and headed for the door.
“Whatever happens in the future, keep her out of it.”
His voice was icy.
Even if Aaron was Stella’s biological brother, Felix would no longer allow him to involve her in the Hogarth family’s schemes.
Aaron stared after him.
What kind of attitude was that?
After Felix left, Gray entered the study.
“Mr. Hogarth.”
“Any news?” Aaron asked coldly.
