Stella was ruthless. Far more ruthless than Leon had expected.
If his men had managed to follow Jennifer discreetly, he would at least have known where she had gone.
He could still have found her.
But now his people had been stopped at the airport.
That meant Jennifer had disappeared beyond his reach.
“Useless, all of you!”
Leon erupted in fury.
Now Monique still had not returned, and he had completely lost track of Jennifer too.
It took him nearly half an hour to calm down.
Then he called Stella again.
“Jennifer has left Harbor City. You can release Monique now, can’t you?”
“Your men followed Jennifer to the airport, and mine stopped them,” Stella said. “You know about that, don’t you?”
If Leon already knew Jennifer was gone and was still only concerned about Monique, Stella truly had nothing more to say about him.
“We can’t discuss Jennifer, can we?” Leon asked coldly. “I’m calling about Monique.”
Jennifer had always been the one subject they could never agree on.
Why did Stella insist on rubbing salt into the wound?
Stella gave a quiet laugh.
“At least you’re aware of that.”
“Monique…”
“Clear Jennifer’s name first.”
Stella cut him off before he could finish.
They had gone to considerable trouble to get Monique into their hands.
Of course Stella intended to make full use of her.
There was no chance she would simply send her back.
“What did you say?” Leon demanded.
“Did you honestly think Jennifer’s reputation could be destroyed for three days and then everyone would simply move on?”
Jennifer might not have been famous, but the scandal involved the daughter of the Baxter family and the heir to the Redson family.
The entire city had branded her a homewrecker.
Leon nearly exploded when he realized he had been played.
“What’s wrong?” Stella asked. “Don’t tell me you can’t even handle this. Leon, what kind of man are you?”
For Leon, reversing the scandal should not have been particularly difficult.
But for Jennifer, it was something she could never accomplish alone.
If she openly fought the Redson family, she would be the one who suffered.
She simply did not have the power to stand against them.
Leon was the only person within the Redson family she should have been able to rely on.
Yet even he had failed her when it mattered most.
Leon gritted his teeth.
“What exactly do you want the outcome to be?”
“I was going to let you keep working until I was satisfied,” Stella replied. “But since you asked, I’ll make it clear.”
Her voice turned cold.
“Whoever stirred up this smear campaign should have their own reputation destroyed.”
Let them discover what it felt like to be condemned by everyone in Harbor City.
