“You can’t be fucking serious.” Incredulously I stared between my president, a man I liked and respected and the beautiful young woman next to him.

Surely they couldn’t be serious because what they were asking was impossible.

Out of the corner of my eye I glanced at Killian. His look was murderous. Like he would happily rip ravens head from his body. But then there had never

been much love between those two.

They butted heads a lot.

Normally Killian wasn’t shy on letting his disdain for our leader come out but tonight he was being strangely quiet and that worried me more than his usual

outbursts.

Behind his desk, Raven leant back on the old leather chair and the ancient thing groaned so much I was surprised it didn’t collapse backwards and deposit

him on the floor in a heap.

Raven pushed boundaries as well. Today he was trying to pick a fight with gravity.

One he would lose, if he leant back any further.

“There’s no other way. That’s the deal.” Raven’s dark eyes narrowed. “Daisy is putting herself in danger just coming here. If you want her help then this is

the way to get it.”

Numb, I stared at him before my eyes darted to her.

He had a point. Hell he had more than a point.

Sighing, I straightened my shoulders. Not that the sigh did anything to relieve the tension in them. If anything it made them worse.

“This is fucking a big ask.” I snapped before I could help myself, I might deep down know that this was a great plan to bring the dirt bag and his cronies down and stop them from hurting anyone else like they had Lottie but that didn’t mean I had to like it. “You can’t be fucking serious” Angrily I threw my hands up in the air and began to pace,

Ravens eyes flicked from Killian to me. He had expected that outburst from him, not me and his surprise was almost comical

“When?”

My head snapped around to stare at my best friend and lover. Why was he so calm?

He met my eyes steadily. “I’ll do anything for her.”

I knew he didn’t mean Daisy. He always meant Lottie.

Raven nodded. “We are going to work out the details. Don’t worry.”

It might have been my imagination but it looked like a flicker of pity darkened Ravens already dark eyes.

“It w! : be yet. There’s a lot to arrange and of course you need some time to figure out who goes and who stays behind and put your affairs in order.”

Our affairs in order? Was this a mission that Raven didn’t expect us to come back from?

Probably.

Another sigh escaped my lips. A loud one but not as loud as the sudden boom boom boom from down the hallway.

And there could be no mistaking what that sound was.

Gunfire.

I span, and as the one closest to the door I was the one who reached it first. I launched myself down towards the main room.

Which by the sound of it had become a war zone.

Which was the room I had left Lottie in. I had thought she was safe.

Fuck that girl was never safe unless I was with her.

“Are you armed?” I heard Killian shout behind me.

“No.” I screamed and cursed myself for not being. But the sound was drowned out by another burst and this time my heart sped up in time with it.

Lottie was in there.

Alone and probably scared.

My feet sped up and Killians pounded right behind me.

The club house was a sprawling building but it wasn’t huge but it seemed to take at least a year before I skidded to the double door and pushed them open.

By that time the room was eerily silent.

Too quiet.

Or maybe that was just the ringing in my ears.

“Fuck.” Shouldering passed me, Raven had his weapon drawn, so at least one of us had remembered to pack heat tonight

Around his arm, I surveyed the damage. The room was a mess of broken glass and splintered wood. Girls huddled together in broken groups crying

Not that I really cared about them. There was only one girl I cared about. My eyes scanned the room for her and came back blank

“Anyone hurt?” Raven boomed out.

“No. A few cuts and scrapes but somehow no one was hit.”

Raven froze. “A warning shot then.”
