Chapter 1 The Day That Killed My Baby
“Someone… anyone… help… please… help me…”
Steam filled the bathroom. A woman lay on the floor, weakly calling for help. Blood slowly streamed down between her legs.
The mansion was huge. There were countless servants. Yet not a single one heard her cries upstairs.
Agnes Sinclair used the last of her strength to crawl under the sink. It was only a few steps, but it felt like it took half her life.
A sharp pain tore through her abdomen, stabbing every nerve. Soon her face turned pale. Cold sweat covered her forehead. Her vision began to blur.
She finally reached her phone and dialed the number she knew best with trembling fingers.
Beep… beep… beep…
It rang for a long time before someone answered. A man’s cold voice came through the line.
“What is it?”
“Ray… Raymond… I fell. My stomach hurts so much. Please come home…”
The other side went silent for a moment.
“I’m busy right now. I’ll have Eden take you to the hospital.”
“Raymond, I’m bleeding… a lot…”
Before Agnes could finish, a woman’s voice came through the phone.
“Mr. Newton, are you done yet? Come on, Hillary is waiting for you to cut the cake!”
“I’m hanging up.”
“Raymond! Hello? Raymond?”
Agnes stared at the dark screen in despair.
Just now, she clearly heard the name Hillary Young. So tonight… they’re together?
It felt like a thousand arrows pierced her heart.
She had texted him that morning, asking him to come home early.
Agnes wanted to surprise Raymond. She wanted to tell him she was pregnant. He was going to be a father.
But she waited all night. He never came home. He didn’t answer her calls. He didn’t reply to her messages.
Turns out he was celebrating Hillary Young’s birthday.
Hillary was Raymond’s first love.
Two years ago, she suddenly returned from overseas. From that day on, Raymond’s attitude toward Agnes changed completely.
At first, he stopped answering her calls. Then he ignored her messages. Eventually, he rarely came home at all.
Agnes had been married to Raymond for three years. For three years, she loved him carefully and quietly.
The Newtons were rich and powerful. The house was full of servants.
But when it came to Raymond’s daily life, Agnes did everything herself. She never let anyone else handle it.
Raymond was picky with food and had a serious cleanliness obsession. Yet he never complained about the meals Agnes cooked.
His shirts, suits, ties, and watches were always neatly arranged in the closet.
Agnes knew about Hillary. But she chose to endure it. Deep down, she believed that once a man got tired of playing around, he would come home.
Love was never meant for three people. The one who loved harder was always the one who got hurt the most.
Raymond never divorced her, only because Agnes was obedient. She did whatever he asked, like a well-trained dog.
Of course, there was also pressure from the Newton elders. They refused to accept Hillary.
Every time Agnes saw Hillary’s Instagram posts, she understood just how much Raymond spoiled her these past two years.
He took her to concerts. He went skiing with her. He watched the ocean with her. He brought her to all kinds of events.
Hillary never said who the man in the photos was. But whether it was his side profile or his back, Agnes recognized him instantly.
Her body trembled. Tears blurred her vision. The heart-ripping pain in her stomach made her realize—
The baby was in danger. She couldn’t wait any longer.
Instead of waiting for Eden Baker, she called 911 herself.
The ambulance arrived before Eden’s car. When the paramedics showed up outside the Newton mansion, the servants were shocked.
The night was dark. A light drizzle fell. The flashing lights of the ambulance were blinding.
Raymond’s assistant, Eden, went to the mansion. When he heard Agnes had already been taken to the hospital, he rushed there immediately.
By the time he arrived, she was already in the emergency room.
The doctor told him Agnes had miscarried. The baby couldn’t be saved. She was also suffering from heavy bleeding.
If they couldn’t stop it, they would have to remove her uterus to save her life. They urgently needed a family member’s signature.
Eden didn’t dare waste time. He immediately tried to contact Raymond. But Raymond’s phone was turned off.
He called Hillary. Her phone was off too.
He contacted the people who had been with Raymond that night. They all said Raymond left with Hillary. No one could reach them.
It was a life-or-death situation. Eden was panicking. If something happened to Agnes, he couldn’t take the blame.
In the end, he called Raymond’s father, Joseph Newton.
Soon the entire Newtons rushed to the hospital and signed the consent form.
Fortunately, Agnes was lucky. The bleeding stopped, and her uterus was saved. But the baby was gone.
The doctor said a simple fall shouldn’t have caused a miscarriage. The bruises on her body weren’t severe.
Even if a miscarriage happened, such massive bleeding was extremely rare.
Joseph’s face turned dark with anger. With all those maids, how could they let this happen to Agnes?!
And Raymond—that bastard. Something this serious happened. His wife was in the hospital. Yet no one could even find him!
Eden stood nearby, trembling. He silently worried about his boss.
After surgery, Agnes was moved to a VIP ward with round-the-clock care.
She didn’t wake up until the next day.
When she opened her eyes, the person she saw wasn’t Raymond. It was Megan Rice, a housemaid from the Newton family estate.
