Love After Leaving: No Regret (Agnes and Raymond) novel Chapter 120

Chapter 120 Deadbeat Dad

Fiets

Harvey seemed to pick up on something right away. When he heard Hillary mention her ex-boyfriend, mind spun with new plots.

Even after years in Montara, Harvey never stopped monitoring the Newtons. He held on to a secret no else knew.

Harvey pushed Hillary to return to Grandridge and cozy up to Raymond again.

At first, Hillary figured Harvey just wanted the Newtons’ money. She agreed in a heartbeat, desperate to get away from Montara and out from under her father’s thumb.

She missed Grandridge deeply. She missed Raymond’s wealth even more.

Back at St. Austen University, she’d played the hero card and milked every favor she could from Raymo

Hillary convinced herself she could just waltz back in, turn on the tears, and Raymond would let her bac into his life.

She never saw Agnes coming. Agnes was relentless, sharp as nails, and always blindsided her.

Whenever it came down to a choice, Raymond still picked Hillary, giving her hope. That hope always shattered almost instantly.

Hillary ended up right back in Montara, back with her father, more afraid than ever.

When Harvey told her to stay and work for him, a cold tremor ran through her. A knot of dread twisted i her gut.

She fell to her knees, pleading with her dad for another shot.

Harvey lounged on his leather sofa, legs crossed, cigar perched in his fingers, his eyes glinting with a strange chill as he looked at Hillary.

He tried for a gentle tone. “Hillary, I want what’s best for your future. The Newtons are perfect for you. If you marry in, you’ll have everything you’ve ever wanted. You need to see I’m doing this for you.”

Hillary nodded until her neck ached. She knew Harvey was hiding something. Money was just the surface

He kept pushing her to learn everything about the Newton family and their routines. He even asked about Raymond’s mother, who had already passed.

He wanted her to hang around Newton Group, always digging for inside info.

But she wanted out of Montara so badly, she’d agree to anything. If her dad said the sky was green, she’d just nod.

Harvey could switch from furious to soft in a heartbeat.

He pasted on a fake fatherly smile, helped Hillary to her feet, and said, “Hillary, I’ll give you one more chance. If you mess up again, don’t come back to Grandridge. You know I need people I can trust.”

Finish

Hillary’s face turned ghostly pale. She nodded again and again. “Thank you, Dad. I get it. I won’t let you down this time.”

Hillary went back to her room, her mind spiraling with thoughts of Agnes

That woman was the reason she and Raymond had no future. If she could just get Agnes out of the way, she could finally have a shot at Raymond.

She spent years at St. Austen, and she believed Raymond must feel something for her.

A man’s guilt alone was enough to let her worm her way back into his life.

Every problem pointed straight to Agnes. Everything was because of her.

Hillary sat on her bed, lost in schemes for getting rid of Agnes.

The last time, she trusted that idiot Lucy, ruined everything, and exposed herself.

She had to be extra careful now.

She was still plotting when her phone rang. The caller ID showed an unknown number from Grandridge

Hillary’s heart leapt. Maybe, just maybe, Raymond was reaching out.

She snatched up the phone. A woman’s voice came through the receiver.

“Hello? Is this Y&N’s Ms. Young?”

Hillary replied, “This is she. Who’s calling?”

“Hi, I’m Foster. Sorry for the cold call. I’d like to talk business.”

Hillary assumed it was a supplier and answered, “Sorry, we’re not looking for new vendors. Goodbye.”

“Ms. Young, I have information about Tidewhisper Lily’s Aurora. I think you’ll want to hear this, Would you like to meet?”

Hillary was about to hang up, but the words “Tidewhisper Lily’ made her snap to attention.

“Who are you? Why are you calling? What do you want?”
