Love After Leaving No Regret

Chapter 137 Back Off

The long-haired man’s face contorted, his sneer vanishing as panic took hold.

He rushed to Raymond’s side, yanked the knife away, and stammered, “I’m really sorry, Mr. Newton.”

Raymond didn’t react. He stared at the man with eyes as cold-as ice.

Agnes tore herself free from the men restraining her, tears streaming down her cheeks. She dropped to Raymond’s side, clutching his wounded hand, desperate to staunch the bleeding.

The long-haired man shouted for their doctor.

The doctor hurried over, examined Raymond’s hand, and his face turned grave. The injury was too deep. Stitches were needed immediately.

He pulled out a needle and thread, but before he could begin, Agnes grabbed them from his hand. She refused to trust anyone in this place.

Agnes had earned a reputation in embroidery circles. She decided to sew up Raymond’s wound herself, determined to keep the scar as faint as possible.

Her hands trembled, but she worked carefully, each stitch precise. The doctor kept the wound clean, standing by.

The conditions were harsh. There was no anesthetic. Raymond’s shirt was soaked with sweat. He grit his teeth and never looked away from Agnes as she worked.

The way Agnes lingered over every stitch gave Raymond the fleeting illusion she still cared for him.

Outside, the thunderous roar of engines rattled the windows. A line of SUVS parked in front of the gang’s hideout.

A henchman opened one of the car doors. A middle-aged man stepped out, a heavy gold chain resting on his chest, and he leaned on a cane.

Everyone lowered their heads in respect. The man radiated authority.

Even the long-haired man shrank back, stripped of his former swagger.

The gold-chain man entered, surrounded by his entourage. His gaze landed on Raymond, who was bleeding, his hand wrapped in makeshift bandages.

The gold-chain man turned and slapped the long-haired boss so hard that his head whipped to the side, The long-haired man fell to his knees, frantically slapping himself.

“I messed up. I should have known he was your friend. I never should have touched him,”

He kept slapping his own face, his apologies tumbling out in a desperate rush.

Suddenly, he sprang up, walked over to the fat, balding man, and drove the knife into his other eye.

The fat man screamed and then collapsed, inconscious. Someone dragged him away. The long-haired man kept slapping himself, terrified to stop.

The gold-chain man watched the chaos unfold without a flicker of emotion. He approached Raymond.

“Mr. Newton, I’m sorry I arrived late. These idiots are out of control. I’ll make sure they’re punished. I’ll personally drive you to the airport. After today, I owe you again. If you ever need anything. I’ll help you.”

This man controlled the whole region. Every gang, from the Wolfpack to the Tigers and beyond, answered

to him.

Years ago, he’d gone to Montara on business and nearly died in a setup.

Raymond had saved his life, though the man was left with a limp.

He never forgot what Raymond did for him.

The guy who had run out earlier had found him and reported the long-haired boss’s plot against Raymond. He had come as quickly as possible.

No one on his turf dared disrespect Raymond and escape the consequences.

Raymond exchanged a few words with the gold-chain man, then prepared to leave with Agnes.

Before leaving, Raymond faced the long-haired man, whose face was swollen and bruised. “Who paid you

o target us?”

Agnes’ heart pounded in terror. Someone wanted them dead.

Raymond had already figured out the long-haired gang’s intentions. Even if he sacrificed his hand, he and Agnes were unlikely to make it out alive.

He had only been buying time, counting on the gold-chain man to arrive.

Back in Grandridge, Raymond had told Eden to contact the gold-chain man and give him his itinerary

The long-haired man stopped slapping himself, trembling with fear. He dared not lie.

‘I don’t actually know who it was. He came to us, wired a huge sum, and said he wanted both of you dead. He promised another payment when it was done.”

Agnes shouted, “Who? Who is it? What’s the name?”

The long-haired man replied, “We never ask for client names. We take the money and do the job. The voice was disguised, so I couldn’t tell if it was a man or a woman.”

Agnes’ face burned red. Aside from Hillary, who else could it be? It had to be her She wanted Agnes dead.
