Chapter 16 Stop Right There

Agnes looked at Raymond with open disgust. She didn’t say a word. She simply shook off his hand and kept walking toward the door

Just a few minutes earlier, she had still held onto that tiny, ridiculous bit of hope for this man. She had hoped he would stand up and say something for her.

Today’s farce had turned the Newtons home into a giant stage, and she had been the clown on it. becoming the laughingstock of everyone in Grandridge.

Raymond followed closely behind Agnes. Agnes acted as if she could not hear him and just kept walking forward.

“Where are you going? Your leg is still bleeding. Let me take you to get it treated.”

Raymond caught up with her and tried to hold her arm to help her walk, but she forcefully shook him off again.

“Don’t touch me!”

Raymond froze for a moment. The look in Agnes’s eyes was full of deep hatred, something he had never seen from her before.

“I’m sorry. I’ll apologize on Ursa’s behalf. I’ll talk to her later. Don’t be angry anymore.”

“Get lost!”

Agnes felt sick even saying another word to a man like him. Three years of love and devotion had been completely wasted on him.

“Today there were so many people there. I couldn’t let Ursa ruin the Newtons‘ reputation. I know it was her fault, but shouldn’t we think about the bigger picture?” Raymond said.

Agnes suddenly stopped walking. She turned and looked at him with cold contempt.

“So what you’re saying is that you can trample all over my dignity, and I’m just supposed to swallow all the insults and accusations on my own, then think about the bigger picture and not hold if against anyone? Raymond, if today’s situation had happened to Hillary instead of me, would you still have stood by and done nothing?”

Raymond fell silent. Would he? Probably not. All he knew was that Hillary had a weak body and couldn’t handle any kind of emotional shock.

Seeing his silence, Agnes let out a mocking laugh and walked away without looking back.

Raymond chased after her again. Without saying a word, he ignored her struggle and suddenly lifted her up into his arms.

“I’ll take you to get your leg treated first. The wound might get infected.”

He carried Agnes and strode toward the house. But someone called out from behind them.

“Raymond, my heart feels really uncomfortable. Can you take me to the hospital right now?”

Hillary pressed one has against her chest while using the wall for support with the other. Her face had turned slightly pale.

“I’ll have Eden take you. He’s very familia with the hospital.” Raymond said.

Hillary looked a little surprised. In the past, Raymond had always dropped everything the moment he heard she was uncomfortable.

As soon as she said her heart was bothering her, he would immediately take her to the hospital himself. But this time he actually asked Eden to take her?

“I’m used to you taking me to the hospital. Every time it’s you who talks with the doctors about my condition. Eden doesn’t understand those things. I really feel terrible right now. My heart hurts so much. I can barely breathe, Raymond…” Hillary said softly.

Seeing Hillary breathing harder and harder and almost unable to stand, Raymond hesitated.

“Put me down right now and go take your Hillary to the hospital!”

Agnes struggled fiercely in Raymond’s arms, trying to get down. She had experienced this kind of situation too many times before. A choice between two people.

Not once had Raymond chosen her. Now she didn’t want to see either of them. She just wanted to leave this place as quickly as possible.

“I’ll have someone take care of your wound. I’ll come/see you later.”

Raymond gently set Agnes down and immediately turned toward Hillary.

Just like that. He had chosen Hillary again.

This time, Agnes didn’t shed a single tear. The strange bitterness she used to feel in moments like this had suddenly disappeared. All that remained was disgust.

Raymond picked Hillary up and carried her toward the car. Hillary glanced back and stw Agnes still standing there.

She secretly gave Agnes a contemptuous, mocking smile, like someone who had just won a battle.

Agnes, see? Even if you suffered the greatest injustice in the world, all I have to do is say one word and this man will obediently bow at my feet.

Just as she was enjoying her victory, a strong voice rang out behind them.

“Stop!”

Everyone turned to look. Megan was pushing Sabrina in her wheelchair as they slowly approached.

“Raymond, what exactly are you doing?” Sabrina said.
