Chapter 223 What Comes Too Late
For a moment, Raymond suddenly felt like his past self had been a ridiculous kind of bastard.
During those years of marriage, all her quiet sacrifices had somehow become something he took for granted.
He always thought she’d never complain, that she’d keep meals ready and wait quietly for him to come home.
But by the time he finally woke up, she had already walked far away.
Only then did he truly see the depth of the feelings he had once failed.
All the regret and pain he felt now, he deserved every bit of it.
“If you’re full, head back early. I’m going upstairs. That counts as one favor repaid, right?”
After saying that, Agnes turned and started toward the stairs, only for the man to grab her wrist.

“Wait…”
“What is it? Something else?”
Raymond froze there, his throat tightening.
He didn’t really have anything important to say. He just wanted to stay with her, even if it was only for one more second.
“What is it?”
He had meant to ask if he could stay a little longer, but when the words reached his lips, they came out as, “I just wanted to say, the food you made was really good. Thank you.”
Agnes gave a faint smile. So he knows how to be polite now. Before he’d just eat and walk away, arrogant as ever.
“I’m glad you liked it. Means my skills haven’t gotten rusty. I’m going to rest. Good night”
Raymond hesitated before letting go, watching her leave as the longing in his chest surged uncontrollably.
Late at night, at the Hale residence.
Monica received a call from an unknown number.
Her expression froze før a split second, then quickly relaxed as she said, “I didn’t expect you to actually go through with it. You really are ruthless, taking Polly out like that.
“Why don’t you use that same ruthlessness on Agnes?”
The voice on the other end said a few words in reply.
Monica asked, “Verdant Bloom is finished this time, isn’t it?
“Look at the kind of useless people you hired. You swore you’d bring down Tidewhisper Lily.
“I’m telling you, I’m giving you one last chance.
“I’ve invested a lot of money in you. If you fail again, you’d better pay it all back!”
The other side promised to get it done.
After hanging up, Monica cursed under her breath, “Idiot.”
At first, she had only wanted to help Duncan and also secure a place for herself beside Raymond.
But now, Agnes had suddenly become a daughter of the Hales, directly threatening her position. She had caused Agnes so much trouble before. There was no way Agnes wouldn’t come after her. Everything she had would be taken away by that woman.
Just like what happened to Duncan, Ursa, and Jillian.
So Agnes had to be eliminated.
She pushed open Bianca’s bedroom door. Bianca was sitting there, clearly troubled.
On the bed, Calvin lay still, as if he had already lost consciousness.
The next day, Agnes received an unexpected call. It was Bianca.
Bianca said, “Ms. Sinclair, I’m sorry to call you like this, but could you come to the hospital?”
Agnes frowned. “The hospital?”
Bianca sighed. “Your father… He’s been hospitalized. He told me everything about you.
“It’s not convenient to explain over the phone. He suddenly collapsed last night and is now in the ICU.
“He’s still not out of danger. Could you..*e see him?”
Agnes paused. Although she hadn’t met Calvin many times, after learning he was her biological father, her feelings had grown complicated.
Hearing that he was in the ICU still made her heart tighten.
Blood was thicker than water. Even without much of a relationship, she didn’t want anything to happen to him.
After hanging up, Agnes rushed to the hospital and saw Bianca waiting outside the ICU.
Monica stood beside her, supporting her.
When she saw Agnes arrive, she spoke with a mocking tone,
Comes Too Late
