Love After Leaving: No Regret (Agnes and Raymond) novel Chapter 227

Chapter 227 The Bruises

“Ms. Sinclair, she’s still a child. She doesn’t know what she’s saying. Please don’t be upset. I’ll take her to the preschool right now.”

Maggie quickly carried Ethlyn inside.

Nadia walked over to Agnes and said, “Agnes, don’t stoop to a kid’s level. Maybe she doesn’t like going to preschool and is throwing a little tantrum.”

Agnes said, “This kid is getting more and more out of control. She’s exactly like her mother/

As Agnes said this, her eyes were fixed on Maggie and Ethlyn in the distance.

She didn’t notice the icy, murderous glare right beside her.

When she turned to look at Nadia, Nadia was already smiling at her.

At that moment, Agnes’s phone rang. It was the studio. There was an issue with dye mixing, and they urgently needed her to confirm something.

“Nadia, I need to go back to the studio. Let me drop you off at Mrs. Rios’s place first?”

Nadia said, “No need. If something’s urgent at the studio, you should go ahead.

“It’s only a five-minute walk from here to Mrs. Rios’s place. You don’t need to take me.”

Agnes got into the car, gave Nadia a few instructions about the gown, and drove off.

Nadia stood there, watching Agnes’s car disappear, then turned and walked into the preschool.

From a distance, she saw Maggie standing at the door of a classroom.

Maggie had already calmed Ethlyn down and was greeting the teacher before leaving.

Once Maggie was gone, Nadia quietly approached the classroom and looked around.

Through the window, she saw Ethlyn sitting alone on a chair, looking small and lonely. Her heart ached.

She pushed open the classroom door, greeted the teacher, and said she was Agnes’s friend.

She told the teacher Agnes had asked her to come treat the child’s injuries.

The teacher had just seen them outside earlier, so she didn’t question it and even thoughtfully brought over a first aid kit.

Nadia crouched beside Ethlyn, her eyes full of tenderness as she looked at her. The more she looked, the more the child resembled that man.

She gently rolled up Ethlyn’s sleeve, and the shocking bruises were exposed before her eyes.

She quickly lifted the child’s pant leg, then her clothes, checking everywhere.

Chapter 227 The Bruises

It wasn’t just her arms. There were bruises all over her body and legs, one after another.

Nadia’s eyes instantly turned red, her chest heaving.

She bit her lip hard as her trembling hands touched the marks on the child’s skin.

Ethlyn cried, “It hurts… Sob… It hurts…”

Nadia panicked and immediately pulled the child into her arms, her voice so soft only she could hear i

“Ethlyn, don’t be scared. I’m here. I’m your mommy. This is all my fault. I let you suffer. I’m/sorry… I’m so

sorry…

“Just hold on a little longer. Wait for me…

“I will take you away. I will protect you. I’ll never be separated from you again…”

In the classroom restroom, Nadia helped Ethlyn wash the dirt off her face.

She stayed with her for a while, playing with her. The child gradually grew attached to her, clinging to her and refusing to let go.

It wasn’t until the teacher came over and said she couldn’t stay too long that she reluctantly left.

She stood by the classroom window for a long time.

Wiping away her tears, she clenched her teeth and turned to leave.

But the moment she took a step, she froze.

Not far away, Agnes stood there quietly.

She was smiling, but the smile was strange.

Nadia’s mind went blank for a few seconds before she quickly put on a smile and walked over.

“Agnes, w-why are you back? I was just about to leave when Ethlyn’s teacher called me over.

“She said Ethlyn had been crying, and since she saw me with you earlier, she asked me to comfort her.

“I knew you had something urgent, so I didn’t call you back. I just…came in to help on my own.”

Agnes curved her lips into a gentle smile and said softly, “Thank you, Nadia. That was thoughtful of you.

“Ethlyn left her backpack in my car, so I came back to drop it off.”

A flicker of panic crossed Nadia’s eyes. She had clearly watched Agnes drive far away.

Why had she suddenly come back?

But seeing the backpack in Agnes’s hand, she figured it might really just be a coincidence.

Agnes handed the backpack to Ethlyn’s teacher

d didn’t say anything more.
