Love After Leaving: No Regret

Chapter 249 A Price for Distance

Emily fixed her gaze on Neal, her voice cold and severe.

“Neal, the Ruells have always cared about reputation and family honor. If you marry that woman, where does that leave the Ruells’ dignity?

“Do you want all of Grandridge laughing at us, turning us into gossip?”

Neal tilted his head back, a bleak, bitter smile tugging at his lips.

“So this is what a so-called elite family really is….

“Being well-matched in status, huh? Hahaha…

“What the Ruells really care about is that fake facade! I’m nothing more than a bargaining chip to you!”

He slammed his fist down hard onto the coffee table, shattering it instantly, blood spraying from his hand.

Kenneth and Emily were stunned. Emily hurriedly shouted for the servants to call the family doctor.

In their eyes, Neal had always been refined and obedient, following every arrangement made by his elders.

This was the first time they had ever seen him lose his temper like this.

That entire night, the Ruell household was suffocatingly tense.

Kenneth and Emily didn’t dare say another word, afraid Neal might do something even more extreme.

In the days that followed, Kenneth arranged for people to quietly keep watch on Neal at all times.

He even deliberately caused repeated problems in Ruell Group’s operations, keeping Neal constantly occupied.

That day, Agnes was at Tidewhisper Lily, sketching designs, when she received a call she hadn’t gotten in a long time.

It was Emily, who said she had recently returned to Grandridge and wanted to meet Agnes.

Agnes didn’t think much of it and agreed.

They met at a private club for afternoon tea.

It had been a long time, but Emily still carried herself with the same graceful elegance.

When she saw Agnes, she excitedly took her hand and praised her for not changing at all.

They sat together, chatting about life and work.

Gradually, Agnes noticed something was off about Emily.

She hesitated, her expression conflicted, as if she had something she wanted to say but couldn’t quite bring herself to.

Agnes said, “Mrs. Ruell, what’s wrong? Are you okay? Is there something you want to tell me?”

Emily said, “I knew you were a thoughtful child. I can’t hide anything from you.”

Emily forced a smile, though it looked a little awkward.
