Love After Leaving: No Regret
Chapter 276 Gone
As Rebecca edged forward step by step, it was clear that all three of them might die here tonight.
Just then, a burst of rapid, chaotic footsteps echoed from the stairwell.
Raymond rushed up with a group of people, with the police right behind him.
Rebecca panicked. If she didn’t run now, she was finished.
She had been so close to killing Agnes, and now, at the last second, people showed up.
Gritting her teeth, she suddenly let go and bolted toward the emergency exit at the corner of the rooftop.
The sudden release caught everyone off guard, throwing everything out of balance.
Calvin’s wheelchair tipped and crashed to the side.
Monica’s grip slipped, and she fell. “Ah!”
Agnes stared in horror, her hands flailing in the air as she tried to grab Monica, but she didn’t stand a chance.
“Monica!”
Her scream tore out of her throat as tears burst from her eyes.
She didn’t like Monica, but she was still a living person, and just like that, she was gone right in front of her.
Monica lay motionless on the ground below, her condition unknown.
Fear filled Agnes’s eyes. Her whole body trembled as everything around her blurred into chaos.
It felt like something invisible was choking the air out of her.
Her gaze went blank, her mind emptied, swallowed by fear.
“Agnes!”
Raymond rushed to the edge and pulled her back, wrapping her tightly in his arms.
Police and medics flooded the rooftop, quickly lifting Calvin onto a stretcher.
Down below…
Duncan had just arrived and stood frozen not far away.
His eyes were unfocused and his face stiff. He looked as though his soul had been ripped out as tears fell uncontrollably.
Monica lay still on the ground right in front of him.
He moved forward step by step like a puppet on strings.
The moment he reached her, he broke.
A raw, broken cry tore from his chest as he dropped to his knees beside her.
His hands shook as he pulled her into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
The pain hit him all at once, tearing through him, so intense that it made his body convulse.
“Don’t…Monica…please don’t…”
Suddenly, he felt a faint movement in his arms.
He lifted his head in a panic. Monica’s eyes were half open. She was barely holding on.
“Monica, don’t be scared. I’ll take you to the hospital. You’re going to be okay.”
Crying, he tried to carry her toward the ambulance nearby.
But her body was like it had completely collapsed, like everything inside was broken. He couldn’t even lift her properly.
He didn’t dare use force. He knew she didn’t have much time left.
He held her gently, not moving, his voice breaking into soft sobs.
“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry… Monica, this is my fault… I dragged you into this… I shouldn’t have come to you… I’m sorry…”
