But there was no trace of Rebecca anywhere on the rooftop.

Raymond figured Monica and Rebecca must have teamed up, and Agnes had come because of Calvin.

Raymond held her, gently patting her back, his voice soft.

“I know you didn’t want this. It’s not your fault, Agnes. This isn’t on you.”

Agnes suddenly looked up. “My dad… How is he?”

Raymond said, “Don’t worry. He’s fine. But Monica’s death hit him hard.

“He’s at the hospital now. I arranged for someone to stay with him. He’s being taken care of.”

Tears slid down Agnes’s face as she murmured, “Does he… blame me?”

Raymond said, “Of course not. He just lost someone close. It’s a lot to take. It has nothing to do with you.”

He pulled her back into his arms.

“Agnes, what exactly happened on that rooftop?”

A spark lit in her eyes as her voice trembled.

“It was Rebecca. Everything started with her.

“She got Monica to trick my dad into coming out and forced me to meet her.

“Monica fell by accident, but she never expected Rebecca to just stand there and let her die.”

Raymond said, “So Monica and Rebecca were already working together.

“They wanted to hurt you, but something went wrong. That’s it?”

Agnes nodded lightly.

A moment ago, Raymond had still felt a trace of regret over Monica’s death.
