Love After Leaving: No Regret (Agnes and Raymond) novel Chapter 285

At the entrance, a middle-aged man walked in with calm, measured steps.

He wore a silver-gray custom suit, his presence restrained but commanding.

Though no longer young, his tall, straight posture didn't lose to anyone.

Every movement carried quiet authority, layered with the kind of charm that came with age.

Rebecca could easily imagine how striking he must have been in his prime.

This was Matthew, the powerful head of Shaw Group, Duncan's biological dad.

Rebecca stood there, already calculating.

Duncan quickly stepped forward.

"Dad, why didn't you tell me you were coming? I would've picked you up."

"I came to see you," Matthew replied.

"Have you eaten? I'll have them prepare something."

Matthew gave a low hum and walked into the living room, several men in black suits following behind him.

Then he noticed Rebecca standing upstairs. His brows drew together slightly. "And this is?"

Rebecca snapped to attention, pulling her coat tight to cover the thin nightgown underneath.

She hurried downstairs, bowed respectfully, and said, "Mr. Shaw, hello. My name is Rebecca. I'm—"

Before she could finish, Duncan cut in.

"Dad, this is my friend, Rebecca. She's going through a rough time and is staying here for a while."

Matthew's lips curved into a faint, unreadable smile. "Friend?"

He had spent a lifetime in business. Nothing got past him.

A man and a woman living alone in a villa, calling themselves friends. Do they take me for a fool?

Duncan, noticing the change in his father's expression, quickly added, "It's like this. Rebecca is my best friend, Ethan's girlfriend.

"Ethan is in the hospital right now, unconscious. He's... in a vegetative state.

"Rebecca has nowhere to go, so as his friend, I'm helping her out."

Matthew's smile didn't change. "I see. You're quite loyal, huh?"

With that, he walked further into the living room.

Duncan shot Rebecca a look, signaling her to go upstairs and change out of those clothes.

Rebecca felt a surge of irritation.

He could've just left it at "friend," but he had to stress she belonged to his friend, like he couldn't wait to draw a line.

She bit her lip, swallowing the anger, and said politely, "Duncan, Mr. Shaw, I won't disturb you. I'll head upstairs."
