The more Rebecca thought about it, the more afraid she became. At first, she had comforted herself, convincing herself it was an actress Agnes hired.
But the fear buried deep inside her kept tearing at her sanity.
The next day, Grandridge headlines exploded with another viral video, quickly climbing to the top of trending feeds.
The title was impossible to ignore.
"Clarification! No More Compromise with Evil! I Will Clear My Sister's Name and Demand Justice!"
In the video, Agnes sat beside a hospital bed. Lying on it was a person wrapped head to toe in white bandages.
The figure looked almost like a mummy.
Agnes held the person's hand affectionately, smiling gently into the camera, her voice soft.
"Hello everyone, I'm Agnes—the so-called ‘murderer,' the Hales' only daughter everyone's been talking about these past few days.
"I'd like to clarify something.
"My sister, Monica, is safe right now. She's recovering steadily in every way.
"The person who harmed her is someone else.
"The police are currently pursuing the matter, and we're fully cooperating.
"But given the sensitivity of the case, we can't provide further details right now.
"What I can tell you is that the police already have substantial evidence.
"I believe an official statement will be released soon.
"Our family believes that justice always prevails, and those who do wrong will pay the price."
The camera slowly shifted toward the woman in the bed.
Her pale face turned toward the lens as she gave a faint nod, forcing a small smile.
She held Agnes's hand tightly and then looked at her like sisters who had endured hardship together.
Rebecca stared at the video on her phone, her soul nearly leaving her body in terror.
Was that woman in the video really Monica?
Agnes said the police had evidence, so could it be Monica's testimony?
And she said the culprit was someone else. Wasn't all of that pointing at her?
Duncan would see this too. What should she do? What should she do...
Rebecca's breathing grew rapid, large beads of sweat forming on her forehead.
Her mouth hung open as she gasped for air, her mind completely blank.
She desperately tried to reassure herself.
Fake. Yeah, this has to be fake! Agnes must be pulling another dirty trick.
But the fear deep inside her was about to swallow her whole.
Rebecca couldn't sit still. She had chewed her nails raw without even realizing it.
Quickly, she searched for something on her phone, and suddenly, an idea formed.
A private luxury hospital...
